anyone anygood with pc's and dvd writers? ive got a liteon dvd+/- writer and no matter how many dvd's i burn they dont play on 95% of dvd players! ive try'd clone dvd, roxio 7,nero 7, decrypter, but nothing seems to work! :( last weekend i formated my pc incase there was a problem with the system :( but still no good! :(
it writes cd ok, and the dvds i burn play on my pc? all the software i use is telling me that the disks have been burnt ok? any ideas? my next plan of action is to bin my writer and buy another! it just pi$$es me off cuz its obviously burning something because they play on the pc and on my £19.99 cheapo alba player.

I've found that some DVD players just don't cope well with DVD-Rs.

Try burning the discs at a slightly lower speed e.g. at 8x instead of 16x, this worked for me.

Have you thought it could be the CD's/DVD's you're buying??

Are they from the same batch?

Are they all the same brand?

Maybe try buying some different/better branded discs

Not calling you a cheap skate.. just a suggestion!

Some writers just aren't that compatible with some players.

Look on http://www.videohelp.com/ to find a good one.

errrr, dunno then. Although, in my (limited) experience, the more expensive DVD players are more fussy about what dics they'll play. Case in point - my dvd player cost £40, will play dvds, dvd-r's, divx, vcds and is multi-region too I think. Mum & Dad's £150 Sony dvd player is fussy as hell, won't play dvd-r's unless they're only written at 2x.

have you got the latest firmware for the drive? your mates with the same writer might have a later firmware release. check the manufacturer's website...

EDIT, must have posted at the same time as your post.

I fell foul of using re writable cd's and they wouldn't play in a cd player.

dunno if this is a similar problem to what ur facing.

I've got an LG, seems OK so far and only £29, will do dual-layer too, but the blank d/l discs are still pretty pricey so far.

order'd the pioneer 111. my local comp shop said that when a writer gets old and tired its dont burn deep enuf into the dye of the disk thats why cheapo players will play em but better players need a good deep burn. if that makes any sence

Are you closing the DVD session?
Ensure the disk is finalised (or finalized for anyone from the colonies).

I have a Pioneed 108 & a Plextor 755SA and not had any problems with either of them. They're cheap, but do check to ensure you're finalising the disk before you part with more money, however small the amount involved.

Then you can buy lots of Cadburys mini-eggs - they help in these sort of situations.

Depends on the prog and the type of copy you're doing, but if you're doing that, then it's not that.
Guess you'll have to shell out for a new one. Still, at least they're pretty cheap now.

Seems the prob is sorted, but what were you burning to the DVD originally?
Which type of file I mean. MPG, WMV???

Some DVD's need authoring software to make them compatible with players.
Just burning a file to a DVD will not always allow it to run on a DVD player.

I've had some experience of this as I downloaded some family movies to PC, but had to 'author' it to creat a compatible DVD to run normally...

Anyhooo, if prob is sorted....

iso files mainly, all that is now recorded works.
