Tim says that he can't face the trip on his Bros. I trust that you're trying to talk him out of that?
I've been trying, but he's not having it! yet...!
*cough* Ahem. Is anyone still meeting at Tiverton as mentioned earlier on in the thread?
Is anyone still meeting at Tiverton as mentioned earlier on in the thread or do we all have to meet up at Gordano/J19 M5?
Thought it was reasonably clear.....
Leave Gordano Services at 9:50am and travel the 65 miles to Tiverton Parkway Railway Station (leave M5 at J27 and take the A361), arriving at 11:00am.
So yes, Tiverton at 11:00am
I was only asking....
I was only asking....
I was only answering
The extra meeting places are for those travelling from S Wales & Bristol. The main rideout starts at 11:15am from Tiverton Parkway
Seriously, if there's something not clear then I hope that folks ask. Far better that then getting lost.
Please excuse me...I have the brain of a fish at times...and after trying to digest 6 pages of stuff I find it easy to forget that I'm even logged onto the 'net!
If I can remember where the bike is parked next Saturday - I'll see you there...the missus has given me a 'pass' as the occasion is adjacent to my birthday!! Mustn't forget the route home! :D

Not sure if I’m gonna be able to make this. The head gasket has gone on the bike and it’s in the garage being fixed at the moment. If I get it back in time then I’ll be there, if I don’t get it back in time then I won’t be able to make it.

be good to see you again mate.. hope you can make it!
I've just done part of the route this afternoon including the A396. Beware there are a bunch of mad pheasants hurtling around. Those things are even more daft than I am. With the recent rain it was also a tad challenging in places. I'm glad I've done 'that' road again though.
Looking forward to this :D Assuming I'm not in Germany :?

Come on the train to Tiverton - I'll take you pillion
Stop for lunch!
http://www.travelpublishing.co.uk/hiddenplacesdevon/NorthDevon/DEV27958.htm
It’s quite a bit off our route, but it looks ok – it will mean lunch won’t be until about 2.00pm.
Any thoughts?
If the general feeling is "let's go there" I'll give them a call, just in case.

If we adapted the route to make it more circular, it wouldn't mean many (if any) added miles.
I'll go with the flow - going to be a long day whatever we do
2pm!!!!!
*runs off to buy choc bars to stash in pockets to keep me going ;) *
no that should be fine
If we adapted the route to make it more circular, it wouldn't mean many (if any) added miles.
It's only an extra 4.5 miles if we miss the East Buckland loop out and go thru' Barnstable.

That's what I was thinking
Anyone travelling down from my way?
Or want to me me somewhere as I don't fancy 120+ miles on my own.
Oh and has anyone got the 'address' for that station as I can't find it online...

Don't need it mate - it's signposted from the motorway (at least, it is heading south!) as "Tiverton Parkway". M5, J27 - take A361. See my earlier post about meeting places
But my Tom Tom don't like that..
Found it... I was just looking at the wrong options.. :D

ROUTE MAPS - FINAL VERSION
Uncle Mogs has been slaving away making new maps which include the lunchtime stop at Woolacombe. Got to have a lunch-break otherwise ValleyBoy won't have an opportunity to leave his customary half plate-full
There are two maps; a one-page overview and a 19-page detailed one. I'll printout a couple of the detailed ones and bring 'em along (one for me and, given her reputed sense of direction, one for Anna)
MAPS:
1. One page overview (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/nest/devon/LoadOfPorlocks3.pdf) (667kb pdf)
2. 19 page detailed maps (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/nest/devon/LoadOfPorlocks3detailed.pdf) (3.6MB  )
Please direct all questions to Mogs
Thanks Jabba.. I can stuff it in my pocket and follow everyone else then ;)

Is there room for one more on the ride out?
Been a while since I had a proper play on the bike so would love to tag along.
Vix and I are planning to join, that's two more Bristol SV's.
We'll be joining at Tiverton, having stayed with mates in Exeter friday night.

I am 99% confident we wont need it, but I dont want say to Plod "Sorry we dont know his real name, or were he lives. we all know him as BILBO BAGGINS III."
I've just worked out my money this month and I can't afford that amount of petrol, so I'll have to pass.
Either that or PJ's going to have to use less nappies.

The regulator/rectifier and ECU unit on my bike have just gone bang so unless I can find replacements before the weekend (unlikely) I am not going to be able to make it. damn damn damn!
I've posted a topic in 'Stuff Wanted' (Urgent Electrics) so maybe, just maybe someone will come to the rescue.
Otherwise, hope you all have a great time & I'll see you at the next one.

Along with traditional favourites like cod and chips and lasagne, you will also find grilled steaks, burgers, salads, jacket potatoes and filled rolls featuring on the menu, supplemented by a blackboard list of the chef's daily specials. On Sundays a traditional roast is also available. Food is served all day, every day of the year and if you are a devotee of real ales, there's a choice of four different brews, including Hicks Special Draught and Tribute, along with some traditional West Country ciders and a selection of imported lagers. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
They don't specifically mention extra-terrestrial mobsters, but if you promise to be well-behaved, I think we can get away with it.
Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Not off to Germany this weekend so I should be there. Will be meeting up with mac99 and Anna at Morrisons. Annas leading to Gordano, hopefully we won't get lost on the way  (thats another kick i suppose)
look I dont get lost!! I know where I am!!
I know where I am!!
The problem seems to be knowing where you're going
Potentially there maybe some riders that have not ridden in a large group before, if you fall into this category read on, as this will save me the effort of explaining THE DROP OFF SYSTEM tomorrow.
As with all riding you are responsible for yourself and your own actions, but we all share the responsibility to not to put others at risk. The 2 second gap between riders is not an invite to overtake. If the rider in front makes an overtake it does not mean that you can follow.
The system is sometimes called “Second Man or Second Man Drop Off “. It is simply a way of riding in a group, with one person leading who knows the route (maybe!) and the remainder following in an organised manner, hopefully all arriving together!
It is not always necessary to mark every junction. For instance, the group can assume that simple junctions not marked are straight ahead.
The System
The leading person and the last person are identified and they always remain in those positions. Everyone else in the group takes it in turns to ride in second place and when directed by the lead rider, the person in second place will stop in a safe place by the junction and mark the route. He/she stays marking the route until the penultimate person passes and the ultimate person sees him/her, and then rejoins the group, following the directions of the others until that person becomes second person again. It is okay to (safely) overtake each other between Lead and Tail End Charlie, if you are going to leave the group, let TEC know you plan.
For example. You are riding in second place approaching a T junction, the lead rider assesses the junction and points to the nearside kerb before the junction. You stop, providing it is safe, and as fellow riders approach you direct them in the direction the lead rider has gone. When the ultimate rider approaches, you signal the direction to him and then resume your place in the group in the penultimate position, until you overtake the next second person that has stopped to give directions, when you will move one place closer to the front.
Occasionally it may be necessary because of the road layout or other traffic to actually complete the junction and stop in a safe & visible position to direct the rest of the group. Equally it may be necessary to actually let the ultimate rider pass you and then when it is safe to do so, you can overtake and remain in the penultimate position until you pass the next person giving directions.
Roundabouts with open views are easy to direct. As second man, you simply follow the lead rider until the exit and then stop in a safe & visible position. The rest of the group will know the direction simply by your position on the roundabout.
There are two very important things to remember when you stop at junctions. Safety first. Secondly, you must wait until the last rider sees you. Sometimes, even when all are riding at legal speeds, the gap can be quite long, caused by traffic or other situations on the road. If you do not wait, everyone behind you will be lost!
It is simply a way of riding in a group, with one person leading who knows the route.......

Revised maps are available a few posts ago........ at least have look, eh?

One new rear tyre fitted just for the Porlock rideout. Thought what better way to scub it in and keep my speed down a tad. Another Avon Azaro, ridden home from JHS in Brizzle to Nam, 23 miles and err... chicken strips nearly err.. gone 8-[

After nearly gettting myself killed today... I am glad to report I shall be making it... its taken me a lot of hours to service my front brakes after a small incident today... but they are back in a good working condition.... and glad that i got that out of the way today and not on the ride instead! and on a straight stretch of road inbetween twisties.. could have been nasty otherwise
Due to that, the bike is still stinking... but at least my brakes work
Im now shattered... hands covered in oil/brake fluid/grease/gunk.. and had to put my numberplate back on after getting back from a test run... took it off, and forgot to put it back on.. well, one bolt was all that was holding it.. honest officer

Well that was a great day out. Super roads, lovely weather, a few too many caravans! :D
It was nice to meet everyone again. Thanks to all those who organised/led/mopped up.
Wasn't quite sure what happened at the end, when we got to the motorway. I just assumed we were all making our own way bak so I cleared off.
Look forward to the next run out.
Looks like I'm 2nd. Again
Just got in after 332 fun-packed miles.
We got split up on the Devon Expressway. I ended up at Taunton Deane Services with Beenz, SteVe650, VelleyBoy and few others....... Anna and Mac99 ended up at J25 services...... Mogs ended up at Gordano.....
I'm a bit worried about Keeno and Mrs Keeno (Jon and Pip on the blue R6). They were both very tired and pulled off at Gordano. I would have follwoed them but needed to get home as I only had my black visor with me
I've just rung Mogs and he's not home yet, but I know he was with one of the Nesties, so should be OK.
Valley Boy's bike, eh?
I'll post my piccies either later this evening or tomorrow.
Just spoken Mogs...... he's back OK and travelled back to S Wales with Mr & Mrs Keeno :D
Sounds like everyone had someone to travel back with so prob okay
back home now.. had a pint of coke with steve, Beenz, Valleyboy, mark and Mac99 they were all heading home so will post shortly I expect.

No thanks for me.....Mogs did all the planning, maps, etc.
The guy on the bike that used to be a yellow Hornet before he started modding it is Chris from Brynmawr, known as "Injector" on the Nest
There weren't as many Hornets as I'd have liked, but they are not as common as SVs

Not sure that VB had as much fun as the rest of us, as he was worried about his bike. Still it wouldn't be a rideout unless he took it bits at least once, eh?
Like I said, I'll post my piccies, including the one of Mogs' humungous lunchtime burger, tomorrow. They need resizing and I'm too tired atm.
Mogs..........THANK YOU :grouphug:
Okay....just one picture for now.......Mogs' lunchtime snack.
Whilst most of us were modest in our choices, Mogs went for the "Double Burger", claiming surprise when it arrived. "How was I to know there would be two burgers?" he said.

Thanks for the rideout - a good time was certainly had by me :D ...I don't know about everyone having somebody to ride home with...I got onto the M5 and was surrounded by cars and stuff...not a bike in sight
BUT even though some goon in a purple shed :laughat: tried to take me out less than a mile than home (he even had the audacity to honk his horn :toss: - I feigned deafness), I still got home in one piece with a smile on my face that would put a cheshire cat to shame. Cheers guys...great putting faces to names...and avatars!!
Back home now all safe.
Mogs AND Jabba, thanks both for a wonderful days rideout. Everything worked well although the route was midified a tad by some loon on the red one who led a slightly different route to the big bang burger bar for lunch. Darn fine fun.
Thanks to the yellow Hornet for leading back, I needed a rest. I'd have taken the same route as I saw no indication for the road we wanted and stuck to the one that went the right way.
Some interesting mix ups at the end but we all had a fun time (even VB).
Will post some pix tomorrow.
Thanks again Mogs. Top job mate =D>

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and the effort that went in to organising the rideout. Just typical that I should p-ex my SV the day before my first sv650.org rideout!
I did consider chaging my login from Xan173 to "cbr600rr bloke" but I figure the latter will make me too easily identifiable :)
I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone, so if we didn't do introductions I was the slaphead on the honda, my wife Vicky was on the blue pointy with the carbon can.
Anyway, we had a great ride and were buzzing when we got home. More please!
