its great up there gets my vote too
The lake District sounds perfect but isnt it going to be a bit far for our friends in London area or are they happy travelling over?
Lake district is fantastic and achievable in about 5-6 hours for me - so another vote for lake district here. :D

It is a bit far. However its not unachievable IMHO. Liz and I travelled to Skipton with Mattsv and Scoobs for the North South, We left on Fridy afternoon and arrived on Friday evening. Jeslter and some others from London also made the trip up. However I can see why the distance might put some people off
Lake District will only work if somebody local volunteers the time and effort to sort out a route and reccy some campsites / B & B's. Also it'll need input from more than one local person.
I know the area pretty well and i guess then its down to the Pennine massive lot to help Amarko has great local knowledge
OK OK updated the list  anyone else i've forgaotten :?:
Me, though I'm easily overlooked as I couldn't make it this year. (Money's the thing I'm afraid.)
Blue 'Blade only me.
Like Fizz, I do still have Black (my SV), but the poor thing's laid up with an oil leak at the mo and I can't really afford the parts/legal nessecities for her to be on the road. :(
The Lakes certainly sound good, a bit far for some (it goes outside of the "circle"), but I'd certainly go.
Considering what a success the social side was this year, I think peeps might be prepared to go a little further, especially if they're prepared to camp/BB and come up on the Friday.
However, the Lakes get booked up very early, so if the general feeling is that we want to go there, then we'll need to arrange things a lot sooner for AR07 and get a location/campsite sorted.
If folk realize that it's not just a ride-out but a mini holiday then they might be prepared for the extra effort of a trek to the Lakes.

id be happy to stay down a bit longer to make it a propper mini holiday type thing
as for a rideout route. in this months Bike magazine, on pg4 of the Bike Routes Bible there is a lake district rideout route 120miles long, it migth be ok.

I dont think its so much the distance of the route that people struggled with on AR05 but the fact it was a long way from start to first stop. Which was why it was nice to see John take that on board this year and have stops around every 40 odd miles. 120 miles is doable provided you break it up into comfortable chunks for those without gel seats or comfy bikes  :P
I have to say the Visordown Easter tour was a nice route all be it long - Penrith to Hawick via Kielda Water and St Marys loch on the way back. Not sure that the SV route could stretch to that but there are definitely some nice roads around there. :D

I think the shorter stints also made it better for those marking, last year I heard markers had to wait quite a long time for the back marker as the group had become spread out. I'm never close enough to the front to have been a marker.
As for where I'm easy what with being in the middle but the lakes do sound good. I'm suprised there isn't an AR07 forum up and ready to go already

Me?
On the lowest-powered bike on the rideout (or second-lowest-powered, depending on how many horses Rock was riding).
I've read the 400s are around 53bhp - plus whatever effect the scorpion exhaust has...
What bike were you on Cazza?
Northy's correct - a GS500F. :( Plus a Scorpion can. :D
As for AR07 - the Lakes definitely get my vote! I love it up there.
Or if that's too far north - what about the Peak District?

Lake district is really beautiful but in summer it is NOT the place for a big group ride IMO as the roads are really chokka, especially at weekends.
Cheers Keith
I'm sure the last thing we want to do is venture into North Wales with sixty odd bikes (most of which are illegal in some shape or form) considering the Nazi-like attitude of the police there.
Pity, as it's a beautiful place.
.
I've done the thundercat ride into wales twice now, and it's been no problem with policing, as long as peeps ride sensibly and don't attract undue attention it shouldn't be any problem. most of the bikes have loud exhasts and plenty of dark visors on show and never beeen a problem.

Lake District is lovely but, as Well Oiled says, the roads are so packed in the summer that you won't be able to move for cars.
How about Hadrian's Wall region (i.e. around Hexham, or further west around Carlisle)? I know that the wall doesn't do a good job of keeping out the Ecosse these days, but it's rather nice up there. The A1 will take the London crowd up there quite easily and for there's the M6 for those who live in the west.
Carlisle is not too far from the Lake District either.

A1 is boring as hell but if the roads up there are great it's worth it, also will the Lake District be less packed with cars outside of school holiday times?
Yes I think if we have AR07 in early July (or even late June), then the tourist factor isn't going to be anything like as bad as it will be a few weeks later.

Plus, if the AR's at either end of the summer it'll be more realistic to do other bigger events... June and august is better for most people than june and july, or july and august.

I don't visit the Lakes as much as when I was a Lancashire lad but in my experience any weekend between Easter and late September will find the roads there packed. Maybe someone who still visits regularly will know better though.
Cheers Keith

Traffic was not a problem at Easter on the Visordown tour. In fact hardly any across Hartside the day we went to Hawick. In fact extremely little traffic with the exception of the A7 when we used it.
I guess if you stick to roads to popular destinations then it may be, but if you look at B roads or lesser used roads it shouldnt be an issue.

Fair enough - in that case I'd happily give the lakes a go (and pray for a dry day, as statistically it's the wettest part of the country).

[quote=zunkus]I've seen the AR06 video's and pictures and would like to come to next year's. Is it possible for me to ride with you guys? I live in Malta (under Sicily) so have to find a way to get there first. Any suggestions? I've never went away that far before but I've been thinking about this a lot these past two years. It'll be a chance to meet you guys in person and not on some discussion topic on the net. I'm even thinking if it would be wise to rent a bike over there than coming on my own if that would be cheaper.
Any help/suggestions/thoughts would be greatful
Am i correct in assuming that in Malta you also ride on the left side of the road like we do here? I'm sure i heard that somewhere.

Yes, we've been a british colony for a good 150years or so, so we kept driving on the wrong side of the road like you guys :) No problem there, its a problem going to Italy though as they ride like maniacs and on the right making things more scary!!
I've been talking to my brother about this yesterday and he's all for coming next year. He still thinks he should come with his bike across the continent but I cant afford the risk/time/money. He thinks its cheaper that way but I'm not so sure. I can't afford all that time on the road though. I'll end up jobless!!

Well you wont have any trouble with the roads here then. I'd imagine if you did all that mileage by bike you wouldnt really be interested in doing a ride out right away. If i was you i'd get a plane and hire a bike when here. just my 2p's worth :D
