Funnily...maybe strangly's a better word...I may be in Scotland on this weekend (2/3). I'm possibly over in Clackmannan on the Friday eve (I think I can blag a bed for the night there), then was going over west ways* for sat sun monday, and back down tues. There's a chance I might bump into (not literally  ) some of you folks.
*for some reason Im drawn to going up the Cairngorms, and then along the NE fishing villages (I lived near Elgin for a few years as a kid) then accross to Inverness...maybe depends on weather..
i 'll pick this one up on the sat at balloch mcds (a bit nearer than stirling)good roads cheers all 8)

Can't decide which day though probably the weather will decide for me. I know some of you said Sunday was best but didn't quite catch why? yes there are some man hole covers not on most bends though. the only ones that could cause trouble are the ones at the other side of the bumps when you leave the ground. only remember where they are when im in the air. most of the time they are easy to avoid.

if your traveling north the road is about 15 foot wide with cliff faces on the right and 30 foot drops to the left (into the loch) with trees and walls down the left... there are sharp crests the will lift the front of the bike and sometimes the back...
There are also people wandering aimlessly and sheep doing the same... To make it even more fun its always got lots of wet patches and the aforementioned man hole covers, so all in all its a 'FUN' bit of road...
I've been given permission to come out on the run on Saturday but I can't stay for the meal...

its a lovely twisty road with big humps. its not got a centre line in all the bits but is big enough for two cars to pass each other easily. sometimes lorries use that road and if two lorries meet its a bit of a squeeze.
lots of places to pass cars which seem to only do 30 mph.
i guarantee you will be grinning from ear to ear after you have done this road.
i do the entire road in 2nd gear at 7000 revs. which is about 50-55mph
but everyone goes at their own pace, but all end up smiling. unless your an old git like justmac who is going to travel up loch side and meet us at pit stop in arrochar

Just did the WW and MP (southbound) this afternoon on way home after 3 days touring on SV. 2 up, panniers and tank bag. G/F loved it, actually heard her cheering through both helmets and at one point saw both hands stretched past my helmet (Ooer misses) for a double thumbs up.
Took nuttys advice from a previous thread and took it in second gear at 7000rpm, 45-55mph front end went "light" about half a dozen times and think back end was up once or at least "very light" (with 2 up and luggage)
I've done it once before "with IAM" but it was raining hard. NOT a nice road in the rain.
To me as a complete novice it seems an easier road to ride, if that's the right word, I think (but probably completely wrong) that the dukes is a more technically challanging road (I've only done it once and that was 300 miles and 1 week after getting bike) at the end of the day you ride within your own comfort zone, as fast or as slow as suits you, every now and again i get a little beyond myself and get a little fright which puts me firmly back in my place. By the time i reach the meeting points the big rush for the bacon sarnies is over so I dont have to queue, plus its nice too see everyine waiting on you, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. :grouphug:

Thanks Blue Flame! Appreciated Mate! How did I know somebody would give me that answer?
Does the route come down down the dual carriageway from Stirling to "Balloch McDonalds" near Kirkintilloch, North Lanarkshire?
Or, I think more likely, but still worth confirming, if it's cross country to "Balloch McDonalds", near Alexandria, south of Loch Lomond?
Just don't want to get up on a Saturday morning to end up still waiting in the wrong place at 10:30 you see.
There are also a "Balloch McDonalds" near Forfar and another near Inverness but given the route I doubt its these ones, unless were using a tardis instead of a motorbike!

quote" Or, I think more likely, but still worth confirming, if it's cross country to "Balloch McDonalds", near Alexandria, south of Loch Lomond? "
Its the balloch at the south tip of loch lomond.
The A811 road comes in from the east (drymen), you go straight over the first roundabout, at the second roundabout take a right then a sharp left (about 50 yards) if you miss it you have to repeat as its dual carriage and left turn only entry, cant you make stirling?, good roads from stirling to balloch.
Or the A82 from glasgow 3rd exit on roundabout (with strange "modern art" within it) into balloch, first roundabout first exit, 50yds on left etc. or A809 from glasgow to Drymen then directions as above.
I think these directions are right but have had copious amounts of Chivas tonight.:drink: :drunken:

Can I make Stirling? Hadn't really considered it as an option to be in Stirling by 8am. That would mean leaving home at about 20 past 7. Which if I have a bath tonight, means rolling out of bed straight into my bike gear at about 10 to 7?
Yeah, stuff it, I'll get to bed early tonight and meet you in Stirling.
I assume we mean the Tescos on Wallace St, near the railway station?

The schedules say breakfast at 8... What time do you reckon you'll actually be leaving? Every extra minute in bed counts!

Don't nobody wait for me at Stirling, roight? :) No chance at all I'd find Tesco in time, so I'll meet y'all at Balloch.
If I get up in time, and it's not raining. If I get up late, I'll probably chase you round the route and see if I can catch up :)

That was gerat. Only slightly spolied by the changeable scottish weather. Went for dinner and a few beers with the essex boys tonight, good bunch.
Pete didnt get to the match so he did the tourist bit
Julian still not well tonight, only just managed dinner and a couple of cokes before bed, left Justmac and patrick in the pub. Tesco's 8 -9 tomorrow or aberfoyle at 10- 10:15 meeting the triumph boys there so sv's will be thin on the ground.
Here's some pics from today.

244 miles round trip for me and an hour late for the babysitter. Luckily the babysitter was the wife who couldn't come because her wet weather gear is 'a bit 90s'.
Had a bit of trouble finding people to ride with yesterday! The group I left Balloch with failed to turn left for the Military Road, Nutty left me for dead down the WW, the Rest & Be Thankful was all cars, Suicidesam was a speck between Inverary and Oban and then Sheila and co. ****ed off into the distance en route to Ballachulish. Longest I was with anybody was at the lights in Glencoe before Colinbal4, Essex Patrick and 'can't remember #2' pressed a warp button I don't seem to have and arrived directly at the Green Wellie!
Still, it was a bloody good laugh. Again please.

Glad somebody noticed!! Ha ha.. I nearly let Col take off down the junction 4 slip road presuming it was his exit to Harthill!! Thankfully I got a quick handsignal at the last second else I'd have kept goin by self.. none the wiser!! About time I started navigating eh?

I took a wrong turn at Stirling services. Again :) I don;'t think you evevn need to go through the roundabout, do you? But I always do, it's a good roundabout, and I ended up going off down the exit before the Edinburgh one. Still, at least I didn't end up in Cumbernauld like I usually do.
Was it just me, or did the wet weather make the dry bits that much better? I really wasn't enjoying the wet bits, just rolling along really, but I've never had so much fun on the Glencoe stretch, murderous red cars aside.
Couldn't be bothered to get out of bed today, though ;)

aw poor you. but im glad you had a good day. i sort of faffed about at the back after wibbly wobbly to inverary. waited for someone who had gone home lol
had a good blast along glen coe until some silly cow decided to stop her car in the middle of the road and put on her hazzards. didnt want to overtake as i thought she had hit a sheep so nice steady hard braking from 110 to 0. soon as i stopped hazzards were switched off and she carried on driving. looking at the bloody hills. could have slapped her
And Sheila my therapist says i've not to take personaly your "rude display"
Shh!!!!! :smt084 That was meant to be our little secret!! Mine tells me the nightmares about a citrus fruit creeping up behind me out of nowhere on an SV will go away soon, its just that I'm still suffering from.. !!  You really must've been gunnin it to catch up to us like you did!!
Mmm the hills of Glen coe are hard to ignore.. but then there were rest areas that stupid b.tch that stopped in the middle of the road could of safely used!! :smt074
Its good your emergency stopping skills stood up to the test though Nutty.. well done! 8)
I know I shouldn't really stop as I please on a ride out but I was so far behind and in front of others I couldn't help but make the most of this opportunity..

You seemed to be quite stuck behind a bus when I passed you? That happened to some of the Irish too... There's a trick. Just drop back for miles, they're so slow that as soon as you see a decent gap, you can just wander past. Especially on that road, where you can sometimes see off for miles. Really shocks people when you pass on a seemingly blind corner, just because you've looked on for miles ahead on the last bend and know there's nothing there. Quaranteed, the only place on the entire rideout where I was overtaking without a written ivitation ;)

Sorry to sound like I'm preaching... but what if she hadn't put her hazards on? She could have had a genuine reason for stopping and at 110 I wouldn't be able to tell. I'd be grateful she did cos some people don't even bother.

HMmm, comparing an aussie to the Irish.. I'd tread carefully if I were you!!! .. Jokes!   Just goes to show how distracting those hills really are.. as I didn't even see you!!  Even more surprising I didn't even hear that lovely can of yours?!! Yeah I was sat behind a bus for a while (twice actually) but then I was also half looking for a place to stop the first time. Second time wasn't so long.. Cheers for the tip but!! And hey..since when do folk send letters out inviting you to pass????? :?

Not very often. That's why I was so slow :) I couldn't get any hustle going on on the wet stretches, so I ended up just sat behind cars for ages. I think everyone passed me at least once ;) PatrickUK seemed to go past me about 40 times...
