As nobody has come up with anything better, I suggest a bimble around my kneck of the woods....
either start in Abergavenny, and work towards Aberdare, or other way around.... start in Aberdare, and work towards Abergavenny...
route, well, the only familiar bit you lot will know is 1000 sheep road, the rest is all back roads etc.. where Rich's bike will like.. lots of great views (as long as no rain!) it involves going past Ystrafelta through some back roads that way, and past Talybont resevoir and some other bits neither of you lot have seen yet....

Looks like I've got all days covered this weekend, The Doc has an idea worrying the Mendips, I might (weather permitting) join up with the Midland lot for a blat around there on Sunday to Rutland water n stuff (need to check times to get back though or I'm in trouble, again!).
This one sounds pretty good. Can you post a full route though with the road names, just so if we get split up by sheep stepping into the road or one of those four wheeled things breaking up the group. Oddly enough I'm looking forward to 1000 sheep road... for the road! Also like to know where I'm going.

Nice one VB, I've done a few trips to your country and bods have said where did you go, means more when you can say better than 'I dunno, was trying to follow some green loon, but the roads were great'

23-08-06, 04:14 PM
you lot meet up at morrisons for 10 ish.. and be over here for 11 ish.. as sid previously, can do this from Aberdare towards abergavenny, or other way around.. start in Abergavenny, and finish in Aberdare....
Will have to check weather before deciding on final route, and bring cameras if you like good scenery....
these roads are what DrRichs bike was made for  though, 1000 sheep road will be included, and for those who dont like those furry critters next to the road, the good news is they have started to bugger off....
Actualy, meet at Abergavenny, as there are several routes that can be taken from there if weathers not brilliant.... can go via Talgarth... and pray the roads are quiet
Ive actualy had ideas for several routes... some of which go via Llandovery... so bring money for fry ups!
valleyboy
23-08-06, 04:19 PM
Took Lemmings via some of the roads I want to do the other day.... nice scenery up ontop of mountains looking down valleys etc... rather cold with the wind though.. p.s. this is where the armed forces also drop off soldiers and make them hike off into the distance.. get lost or break down... and see you in 10 years time!
Lemmings probably thinks Im a nutter at this point as well... the green suit was worn.. and both knee sliders made contact with the tarmac

If I make this I will meet you in Abergavenny. Now, you keep telling me about these roads my bike will love and yet we never ride them....promise?
valleyboy
23-08-06, 04:50 PM
Weather dependant.. we go up over some valleys... so if weather is crap, we get it all in the face.... couple of hairpins to negotiate as well...
depends on numbers as well, I dont want to take loads of people through single track roads... up and down, and all over the place.... ther are several routes that can be done from Abergavenny direction... so can make decision on the day...
Might have to drop out of this one, might have sonthing else on, might find out later :?
I'm a maybe for this one, got a 12hr nightshift Sunday, so it all depends on how quiet it is and if i manage to get my head down. ooops hope none of the bosses lurk on here

As I mentioned in the Saturday thread, I'm not going to be able to make this one. Stuff going on over the weekend, and I've booked the bike in for it's 4000 mile service on Tuesday, which means I'll have to drop it off sometime over the weekend.
Nice pic there Rich. Real nice.

Right.. route is sorted... meet at Abergavenny, and we will go to Llandovery for some breakfast... then from Llandovery we will go along the A40 for a bit, and turn off to go towards Pumsaint, from there we go to Cwrt Y Cadno (single track roads etc.. depths of Wales) and then up to Llyn Brianne.. Burger at the van by the resevoir.. then off to some real wilderness roads.... will take my map book with me this time  we go along some very twisty winding roads... that if I take the correct turning means we can go back towards Llandovery for some more food.
If wrong turning is taken, we end up in Llanddewi Brefi... or near enough ;) if real wrong turning, even Aberystwyth is a possibility!
First thing we will do after leaving Abergavenny, is fill our tanks.... no iffs or buts... the garages in mid wales can be a pain in the ass on weekends / bank holidays... as they usualy shut.... plus I want everyone to have enough petrol for some exploring if wrong turnings / weather etc takes its toll...
bring spare change, as there will be stops at Llandovery (twice) and various burger vans ice cream vans on the way...
Ohh.. and Rich, these will be THE back roads of wales....

Dont know what you are laughing at... I just saw a ZX-9 being ridden by someone in the same leathers as you... almost fell off my bike at that point until I realised it wasnt you on it...
Anyway, Im picked on because Im Special needs
if the worst happens and we end up in Llandewi Brefi then the above picture really will be a laughing point!! ;)
(or else we could pop in on my family and blag a cuppa for everyone ;) )
Current view is that I'll HAVE to miss this one and do something incredibly dull instead.
Ho hum, If things change well, I guess I 'might' be at morrissons after all.
Oh and Anna has a scott Oiler so you don't have to listen to that chain anymore

unfortunatly i'll be working on monday (cant say no to 2.5 times normal rate of pay for bank holidays)

24-08-06, 09:42 PM
The Route is:
Abergavenny, start : whenever you lot turn up
Take A40 west towards Llandovery.
Arrive at Llandovery, and eat food. No arguments.
Continue along A40, get to Llanwrda, turn Right and take A482 signed Lampeter (Lanbedr Pont Steffan)
We then stop just short of Pumsaint, taking a right on unclassified road... towards Cwrt Y Cadno... go past here, and head towards Llyn Brianne
Stop at Burger van.. take photos etc.... p.s. the main language of the people in this part of the world is Welsh... so dont be offended if people speak another lanuage with you lot around...
taking right turns to get to Abergwesyn
here we have a few choices...head towards Llanwrtyd Wells, and then back to Llandovery... or towards Builth Wells, taking A470 towards Talgarth..
if we go back to Llandovery, can take you lot back to my house via 1000 sheep road, for a cuppa at mine.... or if taking Talgarth, down the TWISTY roads  and back to Abergavenny. (A479 back to A40)
This lot will take a good few hours... so an 11am start at Abergavenny suits me... :D
Randomn fill ups of petrol will be required... as I will warn you.. Petrol garages shut at random up that way...
Thanks for posting the route VB, really wish I was going :( I'll look at the map at different times of the day and guess what a good time your all having at different places.
Have a good one.

Ok if i tag along a friend as well (Bmw R1150R)

Heck, were not fussy on bikes... I dont even own an SV anymore... And this lot still let me look like Im part of their gang!
Ride type will vary with roads that we are on at the time....
Along A40 will be making progress.. but I feel the caravan crew will be out in force... :? after that, it will slowly rturn into a bimble.. as they wont be the type of roads to go hell for leather on! some parts very nice and twisty... but, can catch people out if not concentrating 100% so will just bimble along these roads instead
Do it travel 2 hours to a ride out in Bristol... thats the question.

Route taken was not quite the one planned, as some dodgy looking clouds meant it would have been wise to stay off the back roads.. so we paid a visit to Llanddewi Brefi instead... some very nice twisty roads

Its absolutely uselss. Thats why I bit the bullet and went for Smugmug for about £20 odd quid. Pay for what you get, and no horrid ads (save $5 voucher on my sig as well   ). No need to resize pics or anything. And you just drag and drop, so drop 100MB worth and just leave it to do its thing.
And the bloke who runs advrider is the Dad of Smugmug's owner

Nah, what you really need is a video of the road, unfortunately the view from befind the bubble and the vibed from the bike would not help.
The fact is it really is a cracking road, parts of it you can see for huge distances that enable you (not me of course being the well balanced and placid member of the group 8) ) to overtake on bends and have some real good fun.
Some say that reports state that some local riders enjoy it sooo much that they don't get to the end till morning and then looking very tired.
