if the weathers ok count me in..iv lost faith in the sv now in anything but good weather ,the dreaded one cylinder thing .every time it rains i get the surging/misfiring and tbh im sick of it ,im not using the bike as much as i should because of it,pretty much time for a change im scunnered  im gonna get a fenda extenda on it but even if that fixes it ill still b expecting ,once you lose the trust and all that (women as well  )but theoretically(big word that ,hope i spelt it right)yeah

Jim- silicon goop. I know what you mean about losing trust, but it's as close to a 100% fix as anything is. i've ridden mine across rivers and through foot deep floods since I did it ;) Think I've got a tube somewhere that'd do the trick. Assuming it's the usual one-potting and not some wiring thing, that is, but it probably is that.

I might be up for that... I'll be out with the HBOs bike club (!) next week doing the same route we did with the essex boys, so I might have to give it a miss though.

andy-im trying to find a link for a fenda extenda and some of that grease should make sure its sorted ,can i just go and get some or will i get in touch with you ps where does it go?smeared over the ht lead out side the cylinder and across the hole /rubber washer thing /seal(aye right) or somewhere else ,i dont want to put this grease everywhere and get this kinda reaction :laughat: im a wee bit stumped where it goes :smt100

Maplins sell one that's suitable, it's called Servisol Silicon Grease from memory, comes in a white tube with red logo and letters, like a small toothpaste tube. I don't know the part number though, can't find it on the website :( But, I've got some spare tubes I picked up when I was last in teh edinburgh branch, if you can't find it...

Basically, you pull the plug boot out of the cylinder head, then clean the seal and smear it with goop. I put a smear around the edge of the plug hole as well, probably don't need to but it can't hurt. Then squelch it in. I usually pout a wee bit more over the top, just for good measure, again probably not needed but it can't hurt.

I think some people use thinner grease on the plug end, but I've never tried that, don't really know if it'd work.

Will be interested provided that :

1. My bike is back from stealer's with a nice new clutch.
2. If I'm not to sore. Bike gets its 4k on the Saturday so I've got an hour to play on a 650 vstrom then 3 hours on a SV650 Nekid  , plus the ride to and from cupar by serendipitous routes, oh and breakfast at Stuartyboy's so i might be a bit tired / sore.
3. Nutty, you bring your nasty rucksack, not the one that waves nicely. :D
4. I'm not in Stranraer, promised my mate i'd go and chop some trees down for him, cant remember which weekend.

Is it a meet at Nutty's for breakfast before we start or tea and biscuits when we are done.

As long as we're not meeting at the crack of dawn 100 miles away I'll be there. Wife should have new (non '90s') wet weather gear by then so hopefully we'll be two up.

I bought my fenda extenda from Pyramid Plastics (http://www.pyramid-plastics.co.uk/)

And don't take up the offer from Northy for a tube of grease. I've been waiting all summer for a tube

Soz, can't make it cos I will be ripping around France, Germany, Belgium etc with Cronos

The route for that run was: Meet at Hillend, head for Moffat down the A701. Then come back up the A708, past St Mary Loch to Selkirk. I think we went up the A7 to Galashiels, then on to the bypass and home.

It might be more interesting from Selkirk to head on the A72 towards Weeg: Westies can take that home and the Easties can peel off at Innerleithen and head up the B709 (the infamous river crossing of Northy's) which has been resurfaced and is very entertaining. And the bridge has been fixed

northwind
23-09-06, 07:58 PM
They've replaced it with a jump :)

I can get us to St Mary's Loch, no problem at all, though I'd be hampered in any attempt to lead the group by being at the back ;) Very simple route, just lots of ways to do it.

Thanks guys, it's gonna be mad, 1800 miles in total! Just checked the weather, gonna be cloudy, rainy for the whole week :( So will have to go check out the talent instead of getting my knee down

Never been to Europe or even used my Brit passport! Cronos is figuring on seeing how fast the Blackbird will go :shaking2: I guess I will catch up eventually :smt006 after he's had a packet of fags :smt025 and is waiting smugly at the next stop.

Oh and I promise not to crash...

Seems the posse diminished till almost everyone bailed out. However Jim and I managed out for a quick blast to Arrocher. In Northwinds vocabulary we were completely unfaithful... to the Sv brotherhood that is! So I'll let the pics speak for themselves. was a good afternoon with decent weather tho. Think Sheila will appreciate the pics most.
