View Full Version : Never Mind the Porlocks - Ride Out, 31st March 2007
Ahh, I've killed Photobucket...
Thanks to everyone for a great ride today. It was really good to put faces to names and meet some of you all!
Viper, are you hungry again yet? I've never seen anybody eat a burger that big before. Kinda made me think of an anaconda trying to swallow a hippo...:D Mind you, I cant talk. I had one too! Yummy!
mac99 (aka David Bailey) has already given the full report, so here's just my photo's for your delectation...
Invading Dunster...

My pride & joy at Dunster. Hairy bikers mulling route in background...:p

More hairiness. Look at Viper! He's thinking about that burger waiting for him at Woolacombe... :D

Thanks again everyone. Sorry that I couldn't join you on the ride back. Had to get back home for Fatherly duties 'n all that. Dan and I had fun tearing up the A377 though! Looking forward to seeing you again very soon!
Oh, and Jamie, I'm well glad your OK fella. Get back on the road again soon! I hope your trip home went OK, albeit on more than two wheels... Like we said at the time, just rotten luck. One of those daft spills that could happen to any of us. Damn bloody mushed pheasant!

PS, we must go to that little chef again, Lolly anybody????:-D
Looks like you guys had a good day, and the pics are brill:)
:( Sorry to hear about your off Jharris (or should I say Pheasant Hunter), the fact that you've got back ok and can still post means you've been very lucky, it could have been a lot worse. Hope your aches and pains subside quickly and you get your bike back on the road.
Bloody road-kill nowadays, just got no respect:smt011

Jamie, you didn't feck the day up. These things happen, I've done it before. Just glad to know your ok.
With regards to my exhaust: It fell of again on the A420 playing with an R1 that couldn't take corners and later on following Beenz. As annoying as it was I can tell you a SV sound fantastic on full chat with no can  . Thanks goes out to those with tools for those without, I must remedy this.
As always it was good to see some old faces (not always org related) and some new. Thanks to those who organized and participated.
I look forward to the return trip to the Little Chef later in the year...
Jamie, don't worry mate, the important thing is that you are OK. I hope you get the bike back on the road soon. It was good to meet you. Take it easy for a few days.
Otherwise it was a good days riding with plenty of fun over the A39 with Fizz and I trying to keep up with Jabba and his sneezing.
Sorry Hovis for that rather quick overtake on that left hander, I thought everyone was going just that little bit quicker than they were when I cought you up.
An SV in down pipes sounds a treat SH :D
Pix to post later.
Thankd Mogs and Jabba for organising a fantastic day. Thanks everyone else for making it a good one.
The start at Tiverton, ready to roll.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the text jamie......I'll email you a link to all of the photos below
I didn't take many photos, mainly coz I didn't want snot all over my camera :( Those I did take are below :(
This is the path that Jamie's bike took :( My beautiful Hornet and that popular, sorry - make that "common" - yellow curvy are showing which way it should have gone:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/sv650/Devon2/bike1.jpg
Nooooo.............. the best looking bike - make that "best looking SV" - there after the off :(
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/sv650/Devon2/bike2.jpg
Here's the bike taking a cheeky little pose in a sort of Princess Diana stylee. At least the bike is still alive an will ride again:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/sv650/Devon2/bike3.jpg
Trophy feather for the photo album. The bike is now called Hiawatha:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/twoponds/sv650/Devon2/bike4.jpg
And finally, the cause of all the trouble. Jamie's going to be yet another bloke on here complaining of "bird trouble". Fizz and I did condsider BBQing it or taking it back to the Red Barn and asking them to turn it into a burger for Viper:

Looks fine from this angle

Pitty about the others :(
I think the following will be on the shopping list (well the insurance company's list) - upper and lower fairing, headlight assembly (unless the lenses are changeable separately, screen, indicator, crashbungs (well done R&B - not a mark on the engine or brake lever) and the frame that mounts the nose assembly is bent.
Apart from that...
http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bike1ut9.jpg
That really sucks about the off mate, looks like you got away ok though and bet those crash bungs helped a bit. These things happen as they say, more than enough people on the forum to help you if you want it fixing up the bike.
Pics look good though, loads of SV's and GSXR's so two thumbs up in my books :D Glad ya had a good time.
As Fizz said earlier, the Little Chef at Tiverton is a "must do" on any trip to the area.
Faultlessly quick service with more than a hint of "League of Gentlemen" and "Little Britain" - absolutely hilarious...... the waiters running comedy-style between the kitchen and the customers and their ingratiating, hand-wringing style will be the stuff of legend for long time
We're planning to do the run again in September, only this time in reverse. I propose we have breakfast at the Little Chef, grab a burger somewhere on route and the go back to the Little Chef for tea :D

My wife is concerned that for no apparent reason i have been gigiling to myself today...anyone present at the little chef (you had to be there) will understand !! :D

If I might add a little something to the mix, also perhaps an air of "Perry" from Harry Enfields "Kevin and Perry" sketches, I wandered if at some point he might have uttered the imortal line "Yes Mrs Paterson"

I'm surprised you havent suggested staying in the little chef all day ;)
Someobdy really needs to get hold of Matt Lucas and send him down to the that Little Chef, it would be hilarious. He could rename the place slightly such as "Small Cook"

Just to say thanks to Moggs for arranging the ride, what some fantastic views, especially Minehead to Woolacombe and the twisties were everything I had hoped for :D
The section from Woolacombe to Tiverton was playful! thanks Beenz ;)
Jamie,
Hope your hip isn't too painful and like others have said, you were lucky to walk away from it, 'cos that kerb could have done some serious damage to you as well :( But thanks for clearing the pheasant off the riding line for me as we were next in line, it could just as easily been Joy and I coming off
Was the Little Chef incident on the way home? looks like we missed some fun.
Looked like a great rideout. Sorry to hear about the plucking pheasant causing an off.

Good idea! He could wear the same shirt as he did on AR06. Sorry Marshall!

Thanks to you both for being so quick to check I was ok, Gill can sure get off your bike fast! IMHO having me down as a single rider is better than a rider and pillion on the deck.
thanks again
Jamie

You missed out!
It was the one at our start/finish point. The waiters were the highlight of the day, but the clincher for me was the free lollipops as we left.
Jamie, I glad you ok, hope the damage to yourself heals quick, and the bike can be sorted back to its full glory.
You certainly didn't mess up, the main talking point in Dunster was "It could have been me". If there's a "best" for an off then a group ride is the time, plenty of people around that know what to do. See you next time.
Thanks everyone, it's the company that make a good day out.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k300/caz650s/SV650rideout31-1.jpg
and poor Jamies front tyre hit it and let go and if that was not bad enough there was a nice patch of gravel !!...oh and a kerbstone !!
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k300/caz650s/SV650rideout31-2.jpg
Note the lack of feathers where the tyre skidded....
