Phoned me about 7:30 this morning, he had a crash last night.
He is in hospital, and we've agreed I'll be visiting tonight unless he tells me different, I'll add details as soon as I've got them.

Darrel
Poor Mark, he's had a few bumps in the last couple of years. If anyone plans to visit please pass on my best wishes. Thanks

I was thinking of swinging by tomorrow for a visit - if he's still likely to be there that is? (Mark's resiliance in these things is almost legendary - anyone else recall him making it to AR05 about a day after surgery?!)
i kept hearing rumours he had an off, but couldn't find any news anywhere, got direct here via bike talk. wasn't expecting to have to look in a local section.
anyhoo, enough of that, get well soon mr rictus aka mark i believe. heal well and heal soon

For all his good qualities, he does seem to be rubbish at crashing... A leg here, a toe there. Sign of inexperience that.
Tell him best wishes, and get well soon from me, would you?

Saw Mark last night, his left lower leg is broken, both bones tib and fib, also the knee is dislocated, the usual bumps and bruises including across the stomach area, and a whack on the head too*. He had a couple of X-rays yesterday and will be MRI'd today, visitors are welcome, but not too many at once obviously, and the nutter in the bed opposite will tell you a joke**. Despite hospital policy Mark has already impressed upon the staff the necessity of going out for a smoke periodically, obviously it's important to get these things straight early on.
Mark is ward Queens 2 of The Mayday Hospital in Croydon.
As far as the crash goes, seems someone going in the other direction on a straight road turned right across Mark's path, the driver was arrested at the scene, and while it's easy to assume the obvious reason for that, Mark doesn't actually know why yet.
The Trumpet is history.
*Clearly this is not a serious problem - where there's no sense there's no feeling.
**Cazza made a very positive impression on the dear old boy.
Just to clarify, the TT 600 is history, thankfully the speed triple is just a few decals and some clear coat away from being back on the road, something Mark was quite upbeat about :P
Cheers for the update chaps. Am planing to pop down tomorrow to see how he's doing.
Offical visiting times acording to the Hospital are 11am-1:30pm & 3pm-8pm

Saw the man last night - nothing seems to have changed, he's still in one piece, puffing away on a fag and being spoilt by nice young ladies (well BBC & Lyn  )
He'd probably appreciate a gradual stream of visitors, if only to wheel him outside for a fag break from time to time - last night he'd borrowed the crutches from the guy in the bed next to him
get well soon Mark

Yes... and a few days before his crash he said I could borrow it for a bit over winter once the Triple was back in action.
I reminded him of this when I saw him on Thursday night, to which he replied "sure, which bit do you want to borrow?".

Yea, hes having his leg pinned and knee investigated.
Overview of his injuries for the uninitiated:
Broken tip/fib
Dislocated knee (Which you can't apparently do, lots of tendons to brake)
I was going to drop by again tomorow, but i'll go tuesday after work now.

Cazza, Billy and I saw Mark again this evening, he thanks everyone for their visits, but, having had 19 people visit on Saturday - 11 at once at one point and the requested maximum is 2, the hospital are getting a bit fussed.
If you're going to visit him, please post up first and swap numbers or something, don't just all go at once again.
Also, as Ricardo says above, tommorow is likely to be a no visit day as he'll be getting sliced at some point, so isn't going to be compos for a good bit of the day. Mark has asked me to post again when he phones me, possibly Wednesday, to say whether or not visiting can be resumed. Please wait for that post before visiting again.

It was good to see Mark on Saturday, he is in good spirits about his recovery. if you're of the queesy type, then make sure your sitting down when he tells you what happened, especially about the dislocated knee... which as dan said, according to the doctors you can't do as you have 26 tendons holding it in place... very odd images of tendons snapping and twisting in my head at that point  .
hoping that the op goes well today, i'll try and go see him again soon.

Mark had an operation yesterday, the details of which I don't have, but the results were pleasing it seems.
Mark will be reviewed tomorrow with a view to getting him home at the weekend if possible. So if you want to visit please do, but do read my last post here and don't swamp the hospital all at once.

Do you mean pleasing on the eye,or do you mean that when they put him back together they did'nt have a couple of bones and a cartialage left over?
I bet he's back on the bike by next week.
I will be visiting tonight.
