Hi everyone,
Just to introduce myself quickly... I'm Jason, based in Cambridge, just starting to learn to ride at the moment (CBT and theory in the next week, DAS hopefully in a few weeks).
Was recommended to come over here by Ward8124 after being shown the SV650 as a possibility for a first bike (and being very impressed by it), so will be trying to pick a few brains over the next few weeks to decide if it's right for me. If anyone in the cambridge area wants to say hello, they're more than welcome to (and hopefully once riding, I'll be able to get involved in some ride-outs too and properly say hello to the rest of you).
I've been informed that I'll be "buttered up" into buying the SV650 by the time you've all finished... not sure how afraid I should be on that one...

:smt026 Welcome to the mad house
Hello,
Don't get a SV, they're terrible. ;)
It's terrific fun learning to ride, it really is. Listen to your instructor and you'll do fine. SV's a cool bike:cool: even though I don't have one any more - it met a bit of a sticky end:rolleyes:

Hey Raptor
Only joined the forum this week so new around here myself. Only did my test last summer, started off with a Fazer and now moved onto an SV, think it is an ideal first bike.
Being fairly tall its nice and small so easy to throw around. Handles great at low speeds in town traffic but has a nice amount of kick for when you want to go on a nice long ride. Another good thing is that (god forbid) we drop it then there isnt any nice pretty fairing to ruin and that the damage would be less severe, may be slightly pessimistic there but it happens to the best of riders, or so I have been told.
All in all a great first bike and so far I have not had the slightest problem with mine
Rich

Oooh, another one for the East Anglian Revolution.:takeabow:
I'll second that learning is fun, everythings all bright, shiney and new...
... best thing is, with biking, you're always learning - so it's always fun.;)

Indeed, am looking forward to getting involved. Already starting to realise how quickly weekends fill up - people trying to pursuade you to come on various rides, or even floating the idea of someone offering pillion just to get you involved in the interim (of course, depends who is comfortable with it, and is nearby - so more an idea most of the time) - just need to remember I've still got to the fit the training in somewhere.
the SV is a great bike to get you know you want to ... go on!!!
Yea, yea... slow down a bit :) Already been "introduced" to the SV (shown the bike and a 10 minute pillion ride), and loved every minute of it... if everything else adds up, looks like a good front-runner... just have to remember got a few more weeks to wait first!

Are you the same Rich from EOEB, or a different one... still trying to get used to people changing names on every different site (!) In any case thanks for the tips :)
thought from your name that you were maybe buying a raptor.
Yea, had that mentioned a couple of times now... nope, the name has nothing to do with the Raptor (no interest in the Cagiva Raptor anyway, wouldn't mind a blast on the Yamaha Raptor one day, those quads look like fun), was just a randomly generated nick I had from a site a few years back... and figured makes more sense than trying to be any combination of "Jason".

EOEB is referring to "East Of England Bikers" ( http://eastofenglandbikers.com/newforum/index.php )... was people from there that suggested I come over here, and happens to be someone called Rick_UK (although actually reading the profiles you're not even close to each other, need to put a coin in the brain meter I think), but looks like it's just a name similarity :)

Buy an SV! Its my first bike, and I love it (although dont take my opinion too seriously; im restricted to 33bhp so you migh get better info from the other people about the engine characteristics).
Very easy bike to ride handling-wise, its very stable and dosnt get tied in knots to easily (least, not the way I ride..)
Welcome, and good luck for your DAS!
Matt
