i think i could be tempted by a black k7 but i know it woud look dirty way too quickly and i really don't do cleaning bikes

That's a myth, my bike doesn't show dirt. So a blue K7 then? Or maybe undercoat grey, doesn't show dirt at all.

your bike doesn't show dirt bcause it doesn't have any dirt on it, i don't like undercoat grey/silver. i dunno if we will get a k6 or k7, but i think we would get blue again. i wish they would do it in yellow though. mmmmm yellow pointy

yup, fully comp :D
been wondering what we'll get as the bike was only 4 months old. will they give us a new bike or the money to buy a new one?
If it's 4 months old, you have a good chance of getting the replacement value of the original bike.
cool, but how do they work out that value?? is it list price??

they will offer u a silly low offer (mot likely) you then have to go and tell them to find you a bike 4 months old for that price and argue that u should be given a new one...
fingers crossed for ya.

Couldnt agree more, and you really do have my sympathy, i was involved in a smidsy but the other party settled in cash,,, this made it loads worse because i got the bike back from the garage and they had missed the bent forks... so my payment was short by a busted set of forks... :smt092 They didnt even want to admit liability...
I smelt something fish as there was £1700 damage to the bike and £1800 damage to the car... and the insurance werent involved....
any way aenough self pitty,
I just hope there fair and resonable to you both...

Go to your local dealers, get a quote for a K6 (not a K7) and then go back to the insurers.
While we all know there is no difference between a K6 and a K7, there is in price (I believe).
Alternatively - take the offer and call this guy - http://www.gumtree.com/london/22/8532522.html might be able to beat him down to £3k and pocket the difference - I am sure Runt or Jester or someone would go look at it for you to check its kosher :)
Or combine the 2 - get new bike price and but the 2nd hander :)

That Sucks, i would expect at least £3850,
Its probably a sad fact that you might have to resign yourself to the fact u might have to chip in to get the same bike back, i guess u have to weigh up the hastle with the insurers agains how much u want to be short in the pocket.
Dont forget to add on the extras....
Serioulsy hope they buck there ideas up for you

Not to poop on your Strawberries but this price is probably about accurate. I sold my 6 month old SV with 7'000 miles for £3'500. It was still in showroom condition too. That being said I would still push for more money seeing as it was not your fault in any way shape or form. I had another bike, a VFR that I had ridden for 3 months but put a whopping 15'000 miles on it and I got the exact money I paid for it. Keep at it girl! If you need any help with intimidation visits to the Insurance company let me know.:D

had a look around and there is no way we could get a bike of the same age/mileage/colour for that money from a dealer.

Oh just you keep your eye on the picture thread the GM section!:D
Sarah, yes I guess dealer prices will be higher but they may make the argument (as they did with me) that you can buy one privately. As long as you insist that it was a brand new bike with dealer warranty then you should get at least £4k, if not, I'll get geared up and go and pop some caps in some asses. :smt068 Oh dear. I think I may regret that turn of phrase.

Grrr truck drivers. A German lorry hit my car a while ago and the driver refused even to give me his insurance details at the scene. He laughed at the damage and said I could call the police if I wanted...don't think he thought I would!!! The unfolding event, with threats of duffing up the Germans and impounding his lorry was a humorous (if slightly worrying) example of the jingoistic element still present within some of our nation's protectorate - Still it got the job done for me :D
insurance company should be sending an interim cheque in the next week or so
we just need to magic up some cash to get eviltwin some new gear, to pay for new insurance and to make up the difference in cost of bike.

Being a non fault incident you can claim back the excess, lost equipment etc.

me too, we thought our solicitor was going to be paid for by our insurance (rather than being no win no fee but they have wriggled out of paying and by the time we realised this it was too late to change solicitor). our solicitor is sorting out the rest of our claim (kit, physio, injuries etc) but i guess that's gonna take a while esp as i haven't even had my physio yet!!

Its a pretty cool instrument actually, using a big old magnet to line up the hydrogren atoms in your body and then it turns the magnet off and looks at the energy given off by these atoms and takes a picture of this. Not exactly sure but pretty damn clever.
It can get pictures of bones, tissue, veins, pretty much everything and then you can view these pictures as slices or even a 3D model. Awesome stuff :D
You could see exactly one of my ligaments and then where the other should be and also there was a slight rupture in the cartilage. All in mind blowing detail.

Anyhow....MRI was an interesting experience....even with ear defenders it makes a bloody racket. The nurse offered some music, so i said surprise me. First track was some non-descript 90's stuff, but the 2nd track was bloody spice girls ffs. Needless to say i pressed the panic button and the nurse came running in. "Whats the matter"....she said.....to which i replied...."The fooking music"....she wsn't impressed!
As an aside....if your insurance claim goes on for much longer....mine will be settled first :)

i just read about your knee:(
think we should be getting the money for the bike soon. they were gonna send us a cheque and then decided that they needed copies of BOTH of our driving licences first so they have been sent off today. i have no idea how long the claim for the uninsured losses is going to take though, presumably a while as we haven't incurred all of them yet (physio), would be good to get an interim payment for gear though, i'm feeling pretty skint after replacing all my stuff last month

I completely agree with the sentiment...it is such a drain dealing with insurance monkeys! If the 3rd party admits fault then i dont see how it could be any more straight forward. I suppose if they hold onto the cash for an extra month, thats a hell of a lot of interest.
I feel your pain(and evilwin's)....just think of the light at the end of the tunnel....new bike...new gear....and the open road, you can't ask for more!(Well you could ask for sunshine but thats pushing it in Britain)
had my second physio session today. the guy did some manipulation on my shoulder which was kinda painful and kinda nice all at the same time;)

Latest update from the police is that the bloke who hit us is going to have to do a NDIS (National Driver Improvement Scheme (http://www.driver-improvement.org.uk/index.htm)). It's a 2 day course that he will have to pay for and apparently if he doesn't pass the course he has to give up his driving licence or go to court.
I've also eventually been asked for a police statement (after 2 and a half months).

Thats exactly what the police have finally settled on giving the guy who hit me. They seemed pretty set on points etc then, but i guess it turns out that might be too much like hard work!
Whilst i can understand hitting me was an accident(or it least i hope it was :) )....not looking and pulling out was the drivers fault....NDIS just seems to be a cop out to me(see what i did there):nomore: . I guess if it has a genuine effect on the driver and he is better for it then fair play...but i cant help but feel it wont really do anything.
I gave a statement at the time(well 3 days after) but they then sent me a 'questionnaire'....which is a crock of ****...so ive decided not to do it. They then sent a rather curt letter indicating if its not returned the police maybe sent around...no objections here...i have all the time in the world.

Well, at least it's progress, and some sort of punishment for the guy. I have no idea how tough these courses are, but hopefully, if he does have a problem with vision or reactions it will pick it up, and appropriate action taken.
