Thanks for that Viper I see that on the AR08 posts I may not be the only 'farmer' on here.:smt110Field ploughing with Fireblade a speciality:smt013

When we got home only real damage was to indicator lamp casing which was spilt fitted another one and bruising to right side and knee.

Get a post-it and stick it where you store your lid. Sieves catch the big things, this has the potential to be a good un, and perhaps a precursor for AR08.

can I drag hubby along on his bike as well?

Of course, but if it's a Honda we reserve the right to mock him :).

this has the potential to be a good un, and perhaps a precursor for AR08.

Its a possibility, obviously that depends on which location receives the most votes.

I have a concern though about taking a big group of riders up over the Zig Zag, especially as that group might contain new / novice riders.

Its not particularly difficult its just narrow and the corners are very very sharp, think Porlock Hill, but not as steep only with more bends. As long as you dont try and rush up it you'll be fine.

It'd be good to get some feedback about it though after we've done this rideout.

I thought you might be, wanna play down the A30 again :D

OK peeps, I've tweaked the first post in this thread slightly, to amend the route rather than following the back lanes back to Podimore, we'll stick the main roads and then pop out on the A303 at Sparkford and then nip down the A303 to Podimore which will be the finish of the rideout.

I believe Mogs is going to give a breifing at the start of the day and cover off basics of group riding etc for those that require it.

One thing I'll say is please leave space, its not a race and nobody will get left behind as long as we all observe the drop off system.

The space thing is especially important, as we'll have a mixture of bikes and bike characteristics, I.e. twins with hefty engine braking and fours with not as much.

I'm leading all day so please dont overtake me, you might have to restrain yourself as according to Liz I ride like a big girls blouse. :D

Tee Jay is doing TEC duties till the Lunchstop, then Viper is taking over TEC duties for the rest of the day.

Theres a possibility if we are a big group that Ninjabob will shepard a 2nd group along to.

Some sections particularly the bit after Cerne Abbas were gravelly on the reccie so please take a bit of care, hopefully this should be better now as it hasnt rained and the roads should have been swept by traffic now, but just bear that in mind.

I've yet to confirm the pub stop with the Landlord but I dont see it being a problem and I'll try and do that this weekend.

I know I'm not able to go but note on the above: It's always gravelly along there (summer/winter) and unfortunately most parts are where you dont see it till you're right on it. Just take extra care please guys. Hope you have a great rideout.

Righto its nearly the weekend, I've got one more piece of advice I'd like you all to take heed of.

As said before the Zig Zag is steep and the bends are really tight, Some of the corners are 1st gear with clutch slip, I'm not trying to put anybody off, but if you go hammering up the hill when you dont know whats coming at you you'll get a fright. Rememeber to leave plenty of space between you and the bike in front especially on the corners.

Just ride up it gently and enjoy the challenge, its not difficult to ride up, but if you ride up it fast you'll make life difficult for yourself.

A rider died on that section of road a couple of weeks ago, I dont know the circumstances, but I'm sure the last thing we all want is for somebody to come off or worse.

A few more notes :

Theres a petrol station near the pub stop for lunch, if you're bikes a bit heavy on fuel, then nip up the road whilst we eating and fill up.

There will be a second fuel stop on the first Village you come to after coming through Wilton, theres a Spar shop with a Texaco filling station so we'll be stopping there for fuel and snacks.

Just to confirm that, unfortunately, I will not be "On the Doddle" due to the footy season for my junior team starting that day :(

Have a good, safe ride guys 'n' galls and take plenty of photos to make me feel even more miserable.

And don't forget to keep a tally on how much food Mogs shoves down his throat

might not be able to make it,grrrrr.SV has been handling like a wet rag since I got it.The supplier changed the front tyre which had strangly worn on one side ,and Ive just finished scrubbing it in.The prob is it still scares the? out of me because of the handling. The bars are off center when riding and the front just floats about.Taking it back tomorrow, any one know, where I stand.Had it for only six weeks.
Really want to come but Im not in favour of eating the kerb.Have a good run out and watch out for each other

Sounds like to me your front forks are out of allignment...

Is it brand new, if so you have two years warranty with Suzuki so they should sort it, if its not where did you buy it from, most dealers give some warranty on a 2nd hand bike, this could be anything from 3 to 12 months, so again take it back where you bought it and get them to take a look at it.

If you bought it private then I suspect you'll have to shell out cash yourself to sort it.

If its 2nd hand, do you know much about the history of the bike ?

Shame you can't make tomorrow, but I think you're right, get the bike sorted, they'll be plenty more rideouts...

I would have thought Bridge over the Stour before heading to stourpaine is going to be around the time you're going to be showing the people around your house.

Shaftesbury is going to be around 3 ish I would have thought...

its difficult to tell with timings, depends on the traffic, speed of the group etc etc.

If you meet us at the start you could do the first bit and then head down that way, but I dont reckon we'll be at the pub till 1 ish and that doesnt leave you much time to get to Southampton, you could probably do it, but you'll be pushing it.

If you meet us at the start you could do the first bit and then head down that way, but I dont reckon we'll be at the pub till 1 ish and that doesnt leave you much time to get to Southampton, you could probably do it, but you'll be pushing it.

Thanks, so I'll turn up, and do the first part of the ride until about 1, then get going for Southampton. Really not too happy about missing some riding, but getting a fourth person in the uni house next year means £80 saving a month so it's an opportunity I can't miss!

Got back fine.

Thanks to those who arranged this ride out.

Great roads and company. The pace was just right for me and built on my confidence.

Note to self:If riding west into the sun make sure you have sunglasses!! Other wise it makes it a bit dificult to see where you are going at 70.

thanks to everybody else to for following the drop off perfectly, worked really well today and it really does make running a rideout good fun when it all clicks and works like that.
