SUPERBIKE RACERS SPEED INTO GLASGOW

Ryuichi Kiyonari, the current leader and title holder in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, is the latest rider to confirm that he will be taking part in the inaugural ‘Superbikes in the Square’ event in Glasgow this Wednesday evening.
The HM Plant Honda rider will be joined by his team-mate Jonathan Rea, currently third in the title chase following his maiden race victory last time out at Mondello Park, a result that he will be keen to repeat in the forthcoming Scottish seventh round of the championship at Knockhill on Sunday.
They are among a whole host of stars who will be bringing the speed and excitement of Superbike racing into the heart of Scotland’s biggest city as they turn on the style in demonstration laps around a specially prepared course in George Square.
All of the top riders and teams participating in Britain’s premier motor sport series will be in action, among them former champions Shane Byrne aboard the Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport Honda, and Gregorio Lavilla, riding the Airwaves Ducati which has taken him already to five victories this season, leaving him a single point down on Kiyonari in the title stakes.
Chris Walker and Cal Crutchlow will be riding their Rizla Suzukis; Michael Rutter and highly talented young Scot Stuart Easton ride the Isilon MSS Kawasaki; Karl Harris brings his Hydrex Honda, while Tommy Hill demonstrates his Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha; Tom Sykes rides Stobart Honda and Dean Thomas shows off his Samsung Suzuki.
Scottish ‘young-guns’ Robbie Stewart and Kev Coghlan, fresh from their appearances at the British Motorcycle Grand Prix, will be riding, while in a specially themed Ducati event Leon Haslam, John Laverty and Sean Emmett will take to the course, joined by one of the Italian marque’s MotoGP bikes.
Highly popular Scot Niall Mackenzie, three times the title winner of the British title, will be making a ‘racing’ return, as will another former title winner John Reynolds in the event that not only promotes the sport, the forthcoming Knockhill round but also the key messages of road and bike safety.
The promise is for a show-stopping spectacular as Superbike racing goes on a meet the fans special, providing plenty of opportunity for all of the spectators to get close up to the action as well as taking part in interview and autograph sessions.
And, the principal support race series to the Superbikes, the Maxxis British Supersport Championship will also be represented at the event, with the leading duo in the title stakes, Relentless Suzuki by TAS team-mates Michael Laverty and Ian Lowry, riding in the square and taking part in the full range of activities.
Admission to the event is FREE of charge, with the fast-moving programme running between 5.30p.m. and 9.00p.m.

Sounds so cool.

Come on over then.... we'll be at Knockhill during the day and then head over for the show. It's not THAT far and you get to ride the bike over. Surely that's another good reason to attend. I'm beginning to think we should all take those loose baffles out for the cause.......

Hmmmm - I knew you'd sold the SV, but I thought you'd gone off and bought a "Blandit".

Wrong again!- now there's a surprise. Old age doesn't come alone:confused:

Thats a worry!

Thought is was very good as well. Was worried it was going to be too "road awareness/ safety blah, blah" and when the first run of bikes came out and just tootled round I was fearing the worst! :(

Luckily you can't keep the nutters caged for long and lots of hooligan behaviour ensued. (Unless you were on a HM Plampf Honda, dull, dull, dull. Tuxworth still in charge?)
Those GSX-Rs sound mean! How can an IL4 sound so different to the others? Evil!:smt077

Hopefully will boost up the numbers on Sunday.

Anyway, where do I get my Jet-pac?:p

What did I miss then????
I left after 'Jet Pack Man' (who I thought was crap).

Thought it may have got better as Haslam etc were kitted up getting ready to go, but unfortunatley had to get a 9yr old home for bed!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I understand what you're getting at, but that's a bit unfair in my view. The thing takes 3 hours just to fill with fuel, then there's the safety checks to make sure it doesn't do who knows what damage and the main problem - it only flies for approx 35 seconds. So, put simply - the technology is at best, in its infancy. I suspect that had any of us lot been strapped to that thing, we'd have resurfaced the road below it you get my drift.

Chris Walker was a good laugh with his rolling burnouts and the engine boouncing of the limiter all the way around. The Capirossi motoGP bike was amazingly loud and didn't do too bad circulating. Oh yes - I can whole-heartedly agree with the "performance" of those Hondas - damn they're slow.:p

Had a good night at this end.

Matt bellamy out of Muse bought a jetpack, but his record company refused to let him fly it :( That'd be the best gig ever, playing guitar while zooming about wembley stadium on a tongue of flame.

Yeah, I take your point. It just didn't float my boat if you know what I mean.
I think part of the problem was that it was hyped up so much & IMO didn't do it for me.

Absolutely. I do agree in that respect. The good ol' commentator was constantly going on about how it was "five minutes to go" when it had been "final safety checks compete" and "starting in 3 minutes" some 10 minutes previously. That was bloody annoying, especially since I wandered over to check for myself, and the crew were frantically working on the gear.

Dear old Fred refusing to give way to his fellow commentator when he was trying to make public announcements quite annoyed me too:confused: . I was only a few yards away from the guy and could hear both perfectly well - It's not as if we're talking about the patchy Knockhill Tannoy system here. The system last night worked very well.

JET PACK MAN WAS CR@P!!!

total waste of time, I could jump about as high as he flew, and yada yada yada...

You could tell which teams were given orders to potter about Honda and Ducati...

Karl Harris had to make a show for people cause he'll crash at the weekend...

It wasn't a bad night but nothing to write home about, why didn't they just tell everyone it started at 7:30 instead of boring everyone for 2 hours.. They should have done the rides first and then the autographs...

I agree they should have advertised the start as 7.30, I got to the square at 5.30 wanderd about for 30 mins got board went to McD's came back at 6.30 wander about got a bit more board waited the longest 10 mins in history for Jet Man (a bit of an anticlimax after all the hype). but once the bikes started it was ok but I'm hoping the real thing will be much better.

Oh I've just noticed I've been upgraded to member, pity I sold the SV last Saturday,

Anyway, hope the weekends racing isnt spoiled by the weather reports i've been reading. It's already made me decide to take the cage down instead of the bike so im gutted already. :( After all, the journey is half the fun! :smt112
