it's taken me three days and as many runs to the tip to clear the garage

Next time shout. Have trailer - will tip.

On "With great power comes great responsibility"...
Erm, where did you hear that then??

Apparently Spiderman the film. Which is odd since I've not seen it. It might also be a simplification of something Churchill once said.

OMG*

I've just looked at where the start point is (hadn't bothered to this point). 80 miles just to get to the start. Eek! Now I know there are peeps travelling as far or futher but I just had to say something.

*Gosh - before anyone complains

So have I - but I also have a dodgy leg (so moving things takes 3 times as long) and a lazy housemate. ;)
(Actually, the poor beggar's been working Satrudays for the last couple of months and so I didn't want to ruin his first free weekend for weeks too much.)
But thanks for the offer - I'll bear it in mind when I get round to sorting the loft!

S'great though, I can see the floor and everything! The new panels for the MG are all neatly hanging from the roof, nice n safe...

... I have (dodgy) shelf space again, a workbench, clear drawers...

... I can even afford more than a couple of inches leeway when parking the car!

Though I did discover a 24 pack of Coca Cola that was at least three years old that had actually exploded and was making one corner smell funny!

Its 40 dual carriageway miles from me - and I organised it!! I could have made the start point my house ;)

2mths
16-08-07, 09:19 AM
It wasn't a complaint!

It's a good thing I did notice else I'd never have made the start in time otherwise.

Priority will just be getting there on time, but if It's not all DC then my tyres should be that bit more scrubbed in by the time I get there.

If I do my route as a run (dunno if it's worth doing - need to get some opinions first) then it will be starting from my house :-) At least for some peeps (Southam probably for others).

Only about 100 mile for me, so a nice little warmup then, couple of hours no problem, Knee? now that's a different story

Cheers Mark.

17-08-07, 07:47 AM
morning all,

sorry to come into this so late but will there be room for one more? I haven't been out with the group since the first ever anglian rideout.

I have been working in london in an investment bank all summer but i am coming home to cambridge for the weekend, so please count me in.

Does anyone know exactly when it will start?

2mths
17-08-07, 07:52 AM
Does anyone know exactly when it will start?

That's not actually a bad question.

I was about to suggest that you read the first post with all the info in, but I've just re-read it and I can't work out when I'm getting out of bed from it either.

Skip.... Skip... SKIP ?

What is it sticking or lumping on? Or is the problem that you don't really know?

Skip
17-08-07, 07:58 AM
:smt006 I did mention it in another post - but I dont blame you for not re-reading the whole thread! I think we should meet at 9:45-10:00 for a 10:30 leave.

I will get there at about 9:20-9:30 and probably grab a cuppa.

'spose I had better put this info in the first post really!

Still dont know where to have a rest stop en-route? :smt017

2mths
17-08-07, 08:02 AM
I re-read to page 3 then lost interest!
Info put in 1st post would be good!
This is a cafe right? I'm thinking if I get there early enough then brekkie might be in order :-)
Can't help with a rest stop suggestion I'm afraid. The ride is all well out of my area over there.

Skip
17-08-07, 08:18 AM
For some reason I cant edit the first post?? Help K please!! :D

I will PM Ward to get a suggestion on a rest stop - just so I can mark it on the maps I will be giving you all... :)

On that note - Rictus has provided me with lots of notes on rideouts and group riding - would anyone be interested in me bringing copies so we can have a look/discuss?

K
17-08-07, 09:23 AM
Sorted - anything needs changing just let me know.

worryingly for you all i'm looking more and more likely to make this.

you have been warned

Ward8124
17-08-07, 02:45 PM
I've had a look at pubs in March as that seems to be the mid point of the route. Theres quite a few round there so we wont have a problem i reckon. Plus theres Hartford marina en route too which for those near Cambridge/peterborough you should see as thats where a lot of peeps including myself go on a tuesday night.

That sounds like a good plan. What time u planing on getting there? Do u reckon 9:30 would be early enough to wolf down a fry up?

18-08-07, 04:42 PM

That sounds like a good plan. What time u planing on getting there? Do u reckon 9:30 would be early enough to wolf down a fry up?

...and Lissa wibbled something along the same lines.

I'm planning or is that thinking of trying to get up at 7:30 to be out the door at 8:30 and hoping to pitch up at the meet no later than 10, ready for a 10:30 departure. If I'm there by 10 then I'll be having brekkie - so I reckon 9:30 is oodles of time :-)

2mths
18-08-07, 08:59 PM
Skip - BBD asked what weather you were planning. You said...
Fingers crossed some light scattered cloud and a light south-southwesterly breeze - temperature about 17-18°C :D

Now I thought you'd said you'd ordred it, now when I check I realise that you are just hoping. Is it too late to put an order in? We could all chip in to pay for next day pre 10 delivery - or is that only screwfix orders?

I've just been in the garage emptying half a tin of Kiwi shoe waterproofer over my trousers. I'm hoping it might keep me dry for oow lets say the first 5 miles :-(

While I was out there I adjusted & lubed the chain and tweaked the wheel alignment (though whether it's improved is another matter).

Fingers crossed.

Thank you everyone for coming - really appreciated the support for a rideout I "organised" :D Very impressive turnout even though the weather tried its hardest to ruin it!

I didnt think the route was too bad - although Pete will tell you that my bit was crap and Wards bit was the best! :p

I only took a couple of pics at the start - not much of a photographer really!

What a fantastic day. Ok,the weather could have been better, but with great company, nice roads ridden at a reasonable speed, and a lot of banter, it summed up what I look for on a day out.

Well done Skip!

I did think that once Skip got out of 1st gear and the 40/50 limits there was some awesome bits of road covered. I've not been on a ride like that before. Hopefully my riding was ok (though I think Sid Squid might have a few words to say about my getting going again in front of the back marker).

Thanks for posting the piccie of me there Sid Squid. It's nice to get a decent photo of oneself taken from time to time.
