I'm really sorry to hear about this (and even sorrier to see it!)
It's a bit far for me to pop down and help but I'd be happy to put in if there is a pot going to help you pay for cleaning and decorating the place.
Any thoughts to hauling all her stuff out somewhere and having a huge bonfire, may make you feel better ^_^....then again I dread to think of what the fumes from such a thing would do to any nearby....it's probably in breach of a the Geneva convention...

Hi guys,
Not had the chance to be on today, I had to take Charlie to the vets in Shirley, Solihull because he is still limping badly :( anyway after a lot of traffic jam due to a 4 car pile up on the M6 and a long wait whereby after a while I was told to go home as they were going to keep him in for the day I managed to get home and had to rush a few errands, back home now had a bath and am doing laundry, have to fetch Charlie tomorrow. Widget is pining for him so I am going to take him for a walk in a minute.
Anyway, I will hopefully see you on the weekend, I might even come down tomorrow, depends on Charlie and stuff.
Dirty Dog and Falc have been my designer gurus and I keep getting texts saying how they recommend colours etc, its fantastic, its like one of those television programmes where they take a real sh*t hole of a place and make it wonderful.
I am so amazed at how wonderful everyone is and how much support and kindness I have been shown as well as how hard everyone has worked.
Thank you :notworthy:

What about the rest of the house?
Yeah I ripped the tiles off and had the wall replastered ready for new tiles next week.
The rest of the house is getting there, the wall at tthe bottom of the stairs is a right mess and needs a fair bit of work :(, most of the walls are now painted as are the ceilings, some need another coat and most of the woodwork needs painting

Well we were all too busy enjoying ourselves and the place is a bit upside down at the mo and I want to wait till the bathroom is tiled, there is already one pic on that DD took after putting in the bathroom, which by the way is better than the one I have in this house....lol.
I will take some pics as it is coming together, floors still need doing too, Stu has volunteered for that so once I have the measurements and some money I will buy the laminate.
But things are getting better, I am pleased how everything is coming right in my life now.

Seen worse.... I went to a lad who lived on his own, he used the toilet which eventually got blocked, once the pyramid was too high to sit on he used the bath. It was 3/4 full when I went into the house
I checked his kitchen and the only food he had was rotten potatoes which he ate raw!
His furniture consisted of a TV and a wooden box that he used as a chair.
His bed was a infested mattress on carpetless floor.

If DD can remove the skirting boards in a fit state for putting back on - that would make for the best/easiest job.

You'll be lucky! Either the skirting boards will break or or it'll take chunks out of the wall! I'd say put the flooring down and then just ut trim around the edges to cover the expansion gap
still haven't put trim round my own house after 18 months
Unfortunately I agree, but it would look so much better & be easier (see above!) if it were possible.
What a disgusting state your place was in, how could anyone let it get that far?
You've all worked wonders on it. Gives you such a warm glow inside knowing people care so much and will go out of the way to help each other on here.

Well i wouldn't say i was a tile wizard but i can do a decent job with tiling
An arragement? I'd be expecting a solid gold seat cowl for what I normally charge ;)
Tips for a newb.... get someone else to do it? lol If you've got a lot of angles or funny shapes to cut get yourself a wet wheel tile cutter will make it a lot easier to cut them

Oh and dont worry about the edges, we can just floor up to the skirting boards and put some beading around to cover the gaps like I did last time, I will text DD to get him to measure up so I can start seeing what I can afford (some straw or sawdust in my case lol...which probably would have been better for the previous tenant cos she did live like an animal)

Which remind me of good intentions leading to scope creep...
I'm very slowly trying to sort out my place (that I only bought 5 years ago). The latest job (probably started 6 months ago) to tidy up the downstairs loo started with a thought that tiling the floor would be good. Somehow in talking to a mate that has extended to removing a radiator from one wall and associated piping which was unsightly. Which extended to the thought that changing the loo and some associated piping on the grounds that a new loo would be plumbed differently and so tidier as well as being new and shiney. Now tiling the floor would be easier without the loo in place, so that's been removed. In taking the loo out it exposed dodgy plaster. Looking at that I decided the best thing was to remove the affected area and that area grew and grew. Now to make the pseudo plaster job and subsequent tiling easier & neater I removed the skirting board. Then realised that some of the other stretches were rather tatty\rotten. So having removed half of 'em you need to remove them all really. Having pulled up the lino flooring I've confirmed that the floor isn't really flat enough to tile. But I noticed it's a sort of concrete skim on top of what looks to be a much sturdier concrete base. So the plan now is to chip the skim up and redo it. When that's done I 'might' finally get around to putting some floor tiles down at some point.

Oh and if anyone fancies doing some painting i'll be there on friday evening/night for a few hours
I thought about the floor leveling stuff, but from looking at the floor I thought that I'd need an awful lot (to counter effectively one high spot) and it's not cheap stuff.
Last night I chipped up the skim. Well sort of. Actually I think there were two skims on there. So I'm guessing there have been at least two previous efforts. They obviously didn't care about actually getting it level though.
Haven't had time to read all the posts on this thread but it's great to see how people are pulling together to help sort the house out...couldn't believe the state of the house. Nobody should have to have to deal with problems like that, the woman shouldn't get away with it!!

I suppose over the years the tennant has received greater powers to prevent unreasonable treatment from unruly landlords, the effect of this seems to be that the balance of power has switched to the tennant leaving the landlord wanting.

Well I cant take the credit for all of it, the laminate flooring was done by Stu, lots of cleaning and painting prep by fizzyfish, jester666, Stu, falc, tara and of course shadowangel so a big thanks to all those that helped
