I've been looking at the Samsung and the Toshiba 32" ones. Mum and dad have the Toshiba one which seems pretty good, they got it direct from factory for £430 which wasn't bad. Have read a few reviews on both and 'What LCD TV' mag (or something like that) gave both TV's 5/5 rating.

I got the smaller version of the samsun LCD tv (i think it 19" or something?), and its great.

I imagine the larger one you're looking at will be just as brilliant! If you got it, you wouldnt have made a bad choice, IMO. I would buy another samsung based on how well mine performs

Went into Dixons (or Curriys) this lunch time - there are loads of 32 inchers for £599.

Pop in, have a look/fiddle, then buy online! ;o)

I got one from here about 3 months ago: http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/home.html

Went with a small Sony but im a brand magnet - couldnt work out the difference in the end - just went with something I liked the look of as half the gadgets i'd never use. Def. go to Currys first though and have a look at them for real so you know what it will look like when it gets out of the box.

These are all expensive... £300 +p&p for a hannspree 32" that gets VERY good reviews (its the post 2nd down). Never buy from Dixons or Curries, they are like PC World lacking knowledge in anything (generally speaking).

Go Samsung, IMO second only to Sony for pic quality.

The speakers can distort the sound a bit at high volume though.

Samsung have habit of making some of the sexier looking LCD TV's as well.

Interesting article. FYI, all Sky HD is broadcast in 1080i.

For DVDs, I use a home cinema projector. You can easily get a 70 or 80 in display out of these, though you need a darkened room.

Be careful what you buy with the cheapos. Everybody just rushes out and buys one because its the latest gadget but most people end up hugely disappointed and a sore head because of quality issues with normal TV. DON'T watch the HD teasers. Get them to play Sky sports channel and watch it side by side. Watch out for the scrolling menu at the foot of the screen. If It distorts then walk away. The text should be crystal clear - ie no "moire effect" or mpegging or balooning.

I have the Philips ambilight which I use for Video compositing at work and it's light years ahead of anything I've ever used. It has advanced motion prediction which means you don't get that annoying shimmer when people move fast.

I did a fair bit of checking on reviews before I made a purchase and the Samsung was coming out tops in general. Sound quality not as good as some others but picture quality was consistently getting good marks.

Yea there was the 37" inch version on ebuyer as well for £400, Guess they might have sold out of them.

Hannspree arnt cheap. Read the reviews!

Samsung are good but they are overpriced! Far too expensice for what extra? I dont know. And samsung arnt "ultimate" they subcontract the making of the TV's out to cheap **** firms and so they usually arn't brilliant, then slap a samsumg sticker on and everyone goes WOOOO Samsung its nice and shinny must be good... oh and it costs a lot now i know its good.

Sigh

Oh one other thing, go for full HD if you want ultimate quility (these are very rare and pretty expensive ;)).

I haven't actually got an LCD TV, but if I did it would be a Samsung ... I've done my research, and I know what I want (I just can't afford it yet) ... and although many reviews say what everyone else has said about the sound quality on the Samsungs, I have to add that the reviews I've read also state that this issue is not apparent when the TV is hooked up to a surround sound system. So if you are concerned about the sound quality on the Samsungs, then maybe you might want to budget for a surround system (at a later date, perhaps).

Also, in a recent "Which Hi-Fi" mag, the Panasonics, Phillips, and Samsungs appeared to be getting good marks/reviews.

Pete

well, I've been using ebuyer for pc stuff for years now and never had a problem with them at all :D - in fact, on one order (filled with bits n pieces to build a pc), I forgot to order a power cable (kettle type) ... didn't realise until I started unpacking ... only to find that my fears were unfounded cos some nice person at ebuyer had obviously recognised that I "may" need one and chucked it in :) (i wasn't invoiced for it either :-P) ... if you read the reviews n comments on their site tho, I have read that a few people have had bad experiences with them ... but these appear to be in a very small minority ;-)

When I got the Samsung I also went for the XT250 Home Theatre (http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/homecinema/homecinema/ht_x250rxeu.asp) 600 Watt system which 'talks' to the telly and overrides the telly's own (not very good)speakers. It upscales normal DVD's but also to my surprise lets you connect MP3 players and the like via USB.

Discovered that I could connect up the PSP via the USB port and play the media using the Samsung's remote control. :p
