I'm a big Joy Division fan, I remember this cover going out live in with the Glastonbury footage a few years ago now and being mesmorised by it. I dont know why but I really like it, but I feel like I oughta hate it.
Its certainly a different take on the song, and I think they were damn brave to cover it in this way.
Theres a lot of amusing and closed minded comments on you tube to go with this video footage here

What do you think ?
Fizz, I prefer the original tbh
I always find covers a bit strange. I say this as the original song by JD was writen with meaning and feeling by JD who sang it and it therefore not only sounded good it had true meaning for the band and therefore inparts something to the listener that I think no cover can.
A classic, if a little extreme example of this, is when you get peope who cover Yesterday by the Beatles. They sit there and smile as they sing!!! have they not thought about and understood what the song is actually about! Another good example of this was when All Saints covered "under the bridge" by RHCP.
I rest my case.

I don't really like it, it's like a Bristol/North West London second-rate Morcheeba clone Trip Hop. That said, I don't hate it and it's not bad from a technical POV.
If you think this cover is bad, you should hear V/Vm's version. :D
Squarepusher did a decent version, but it didn't really add much to the original.
Sacrilige.
Ian Curtis sang it with a real energy - anger, pain, the whole song was filled with the pent-up emotion of someone filled with angst which bought a real meaning to the lyrics, every 'twang' of Hookie's bass chipped away another chunk of what was once a deep and meaningful relationship now breathing it's last few breaths of life,
This version was by some bint who could never hope to do the original any justice.
Anyone going to see Control?

Anyone going to see Control?
Yep I am, I'm looking forward to it.
I got this bulletin from myspace...
"Shortlist magazine has revealed that distributors in the US, working the new Anton Corbijn film Control, asked if Joy Division could perform live at the US premiere.
Says Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook:
“Someone from the film’s US distributor’s office phoned up saying that the New York premiere was on 25 September and would Joy Division play?
“I replied, ‘Well, the last I heard, the lead singer was dead but I’ll give them a ring and see if anything has changed'.”
Control, which focuses on Joy Division singer Ian Curtis' life and eventual suicide on May 18 1980, is released in the UK on Friday (October 5); its soundtrack compilation, featuring David Bowie, The Sex Pistols and The Buzzcocks alongside the obvious two, is out now on Warner Music."
The world has run out of music. Therefore, its up to the newbies to ruin every song ever written. Either that, or the next winner of X factor!!

did anyone hear the covers radio 1 where getting people to do for the 40th, good god they where crap, the Frattelli's covered Jimi's version of All along the watch tower which was absolutely awful, i missed people comments as i was running the machines, but they failed to mention that it was originally Bob Dylans song which Hendrix covered and tweaked a bit but both where still good
they also got a band to cover love will tear us apart, can't remember who it was but its was really crap

Thanks for posting the link, I've just discovered my favourite song of all time - you know, the one I want playing at my own funeral.

She does have quite a soothing voice, and cute too, for a Froggie.
Ive just realised that a lot of em have gone now, as well as Ian Curtis, Rob Gretton, Martin Hamnett and mister Manchester himself Anthony 'tony' Wilson.

Nope didnt catch it unfortunatlely, thing I remember about it all most poignantly was being in the queue at the airmens mess at RAF Wildenrath in Gemrany in in 1980 and one the lads asking me what Id been up to and replying'just been listening to love will tear us apart about 500 times' and him saying 'oh yeah lead singer just killed himself, it was on BFBS ( British forces broadcast service ) a little while ago !' I was stunned to say the least.
