Couple of things I was thinking about today, for the benefit of any newbie to either riding or group riding.

If a faster bike comes up behind you, don't panic and ride in the gutter trying to get out of the way. Maybe use the right leg signal to let the rider know you are aware they are there. They should be competent enough to pass when it is safe to do so. Worry about yourself, not them.

If you go for an overtake, CHECK YOUR MIRRORS FIRST! There may be a quicker bike already overtaking. Getting a bike surgically removed from your rectum will not be pleasant!

Good points - applies anywhere on the route. Mirrors point, I'd go for a shoulder check too. However I guess that people might be tempted to overtake SMVs particularly on the A458 on the way back - it's twisty with short straights. Some of the straights are longer - and therefore safer, particularly if there are two or more bikes overtaking - but you need to be patient to wait for them.

Hello Mr.Cog. I'm only down the road in Sutton Coldfield if you fancy meeting up for the ride to Shrewsbury. There'll probably be some others meeting up on the way to...
