I suggest you spend 100 quid on some second hand clocks, reg / rec, new battery and bulbs

Good morning.

Most instrument assemblies contain a voltage stabiliser. This is what's probably given up the ghost in your case, due toi the high voltage it copped for.
I'm not surprised Suzuki came up with the age excuse, they're not known for being forthcoming when a bike is out of warranty.

Naked clocks are pretty thin on the ground, (Hens teeth) but all the other components should be reasonably easy to obtain secondhand.

By heck did you get punched up the wotsits by the shop, £275! EEK Shouldn't have taken more than a couple of hours to assess it properly. Bad Show!

Cheers.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, even though we all hear of regulator-rectifier woes with SVs, (bear in mind however; the great majority of owners have never had problems), but the failure that you have suffered is by far of the least common variety - most, by an enormous degree, fail by not allowing the output voltage to rise highly enough, thus your experience might rightly be considered as unusual enough to suggest that the unit isn't poorly/incorrectly specified in this respect.

My reg/rec killed my clocks when it went fubar.

Re: Blood out of a stone

When my reg/rec went down, the battery just didn't charge. Btw, the clocks and everything was erratic on low power supply.. The battery was new and didn't require more than a few recharges to come back to life. So I got lucky.. Sorry to hear about your trouble..
Hope you didn't put another sv reg/rec on your bike, 'cause that would just lead to it toasting itself another 8k miles down the road..
From what I heard/read the problem with the r/r is that it's not getting sufficient cooling so many install gsxr or honda ones

Re: Blood out of a stone

Your obviously shopping at the wrong shops

ECU - 99p from ebay + 5 quid postage
Battery 25 quid from my local bike garage
reg 25 quid ebay again
clocks ebay 50 - 70 quid
so not far off at all

Dear Mr Ranger

Thank you for contacting our Customer Services Centre on the 2nd December 2009.

Firstly, we would like to apologise for any frustration and disappointment that you have been caused. We understand that your 1999 SV650X has experienced a regulator failure which has resulted in failures to other components. As advised in our telephone message on the 30th November 2009 unfortunately, due to the age of the machine we are unable to offer a goodwill contribution towards a new tachometer.

We acknowledge that our response may not meet with your expectations on this occasion and we apologise for any inconvenience that you have been caused.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact our Customer Services Centre. Please feel free to call us on 0500 011 959 if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
