Re: SV won't start after lowside
Yeah.. I haven't decided whether to fix it or short it out and forget about it. Depends on how cheap and easy to get the switch is.
Have bought the two levers, am bidding an auction on the fairing now. Anyone know where I stand legally - MOT is overdue but I haven't sorned it? Won't pass the mot in its current state. (not wanting to ride it of course, just to stay legal while I repair it. I'd sorn it, but swinton demand £50 fee to cancel the insurance if I do!) (i keep editing cos I don't think I've been clear enough! - it has long road tax, insurance will run out end of jan & if I haven't fixed it I'll sorn it then.. But am I ok off the road, insured, but no mot in the mean time, or will they come after me?) |
Re: SV won't start after lowside
When keeping it off road:
You are fine to have tax, ins but no MOT. You are fine to have ins, SORN and no tax or MOT Only bit they now don't like is you to have tax but no insurance. |
Re: SV won't start after lowside
Thanks YC, that's a relief.
Anyone recommend an ins co that doesn't want to dip into your pocket at every opportunity? |

Re: SV won't start after lowside
Clutch lever replaced, and repairing that has cured the switch problem. Gear lever is off and the replacement is at the mail depot waiting for me. I lost the auction (bloody snipers ruin ebay IMO) so will have a go at repairing the panel myself - anyone know a good matching paint available in the uk (1999 yellow)?
Haynes says access to the allen bolt on the back of the footrest assy is 'limited'.. you get about 6mm.. I had to remove the whole assembly and still it twisted in the vice trying to get the bolt out, I ended up having to screw it to my bench and take an impact driver to it! |

Yeah they're a bugger, loctited too so impact driver isn't even the most effective, generally a vice and the socket works fine. If in doubt add heat. |
