Re: Scottoiler fitting.
Howday - I'm a Gladius rider (just passed DAS) and could do with a little help :smt087
Having searched the threads and web I can't find anyone who owns a Glad and has fitted a Scottoiler (a must for daily riders so I understand - already slapped on a fenda extenda). Not worried about mounting the unit & pipes etc but cannot find the elusive vacuum port. Form the sv650 pics and install guides on the Scottoiler site I've seen I should be looking for a spigot on one of the carbs (better than splicing in so I've read). I've even contacted Scottoiler who have yet to publish any Gladius vacuum port pics. Any Glad owners/users/knowledgible folk know if I need to whip off the tank as I'm guessing it's on the back of the back carb (re carb gauge port) as I can see the back of the front carb & nothing :smt119. Any help welcome :smt055. Fruity Quote:

Re: Scottoiler fitting.
Hiya mate. Congradulations on passing your test :)
Not sure about the specifics of the gladius but scottoilers generally fit in similar way on any bike. You will probably have to lift the tank up and take the air box off, you should be able to locate the spigots pretty easily then, located on the throttle bodies. Lifting the tank and taking air box off isn't a big job realy so best thing you could do I reckon is pick a nice day and have a look, an excuse to tinker with the bike :) |
Re: Scottoiler fitting.
Cheers :D and thanks for the advice Ploppy ;), think I'll do just that - I'm no grease monkey (despite the avatar) but know one end of a screw driver from the other.
I'm sure your right. That little bug ger will rear it's ugly head :smt031 when I get busy with the toolbox. p.s. Does the vacuum feed run into the air filter? I'm certain the pipe I followed by eye runs into the air filter, thought it would go back to the tank or fuel pump??? |
Re: Scottoiler fitting.
If its anything like the sv then it shouldn't lead to anywhere :S it should just look like a 'nipple' for want of a better word. Take the air box off and look at the base (underneath) the throttle bodies and you should see a little rubber cap. Remove the cap (carefully i might add, i split one on my VFR when i was taking it off to attach some vacuum gauges when balancing the carbs.. doh :( ) and push on the scottoiler attachment. Have a look at the picture on the first page and you can see it in the middle, already with the sottoiler attatchment on....
Its difficult to explain without shoeing you a picture but try as i might, i cant find a picture on google of the gladius throttle bodies...:-? Anywho i dont think you will have much trouble once you can see underneath the tank properly. If you do get stuck as to what your looking for when you go at it with the tools, then if you take some pictures and post again, them im sure someone can point you in the right direction. Failing that then send me a PM and ill do my best to help :) |

Re: Scottoiler fitting.
Okay, now I'm confused
Before I totally removed the air filter from the throttle bodies I confrimed the vacuum pipes (checked vac by running bike & putting my finger over end - suck it and see stylee) run into what appears to be x2 electrical measuring devices. I can not see any spigot that I would be able to tap a vsystem Scottoiler onto. Having done a bit more Googling, I came across this info. http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...50_gladius.htm "The newly patented Suzuki Idle-speed Automatic Control (SIAC) system is integrated into each throttle body, using internal passageways to eliminate external hoses and control valves. A notch machined into the secondary butterfly valve shaft precisely matches the volume of air flowing through the idle circuit with actual throttle position, producing stable idle while improving cold starting and reducing emissions immediately after start up." On another site I read " Idle Speed Control (ISC) system integrated into throttle body –first ever on any Suzuki street bike– improves idle, cold starting and eliminates additional wiring and hoses." Before I delve further into the unknown, can someone more cleverer than me please check what I'm thinking i.e. there is no spigot as it's done differently on the Gladius.:smt115 Also, contacted Scottoiler who have no Gladius fitting instructions - pointed me at the SV650 install (which I already downloaded) and from what I can see looks different. p.s. do you want me to start a new post or keep things tidy & keep posting here? p.p.s. re my p.s. I've took some shoddy pics but don't know how useful they might be again didn't want to clutter this thread if whoever owns it wants me to start my own. Any help welcome (Ploppy or anyone out there in the org world). Fanks |

Re my prev post (forgot to quote) "Before I totally removed the air filter from the throttle bodies I confrimed the vacuum pipes (checked vac by running bike & putting my finger over end - suck it and see stylee) run into what appears to be x2 electrical measuring devices." - here is a snap to help explain.
FYI It's got 9212 printed on it. This pipe runs from the throttle body & there are x2 one from each running to a 'box' on either side of the air filter and seems to end/no other 'out' for the pipe. NOTE: When I ran the engine to check I'd correctly located a vac pipe I got an error on the dash which, after replacing the pipe & restarting the bike, went away. Guessing this is part of the new SIAC - each throttle body has electrical connector in it & just so you know, upon turning the ignition key, what appears to be the air intake valve/rod governing both carbs moves completely right then completely left as if to reset before firing up. I have no idea if this happens on the SV650. As you can probably tell I no know what i speaky about.:-D |
Re: Scottoiler fitting.
Hmmm not too sure myself at the moment. There is definatly nothing else on the throttle body that could be the vac gauge?... At this point we need another gladius owner for advice lol it might be worth nipping into your local Suzuki dealer and ask a few quetions. My old vfr had a spigot, my brothers sv650 does and also my sprint does!.... I'm confused with this too mate :S
where abouts in sheff are you? Just trying to think of a dealer which might be able to help. There is one in Barnsley over my end, I'll pop in some time during the week and ask for you, if your havnt cracked it allready |
