I have tried them, quite thoroughly. I had one come off in a spill and it was one of the higher priced ones, lost my front teeth and fractured my jaw among other things. When it comes to your head its wise not to skimp, after all you do get what you pay for.

Don't scrimp on gear that might not do the proper job...it's Shoei helmets for me, they last, they fit my head, they are generally quiet, they look good and most importantly they seem to work well for anyone crashing in them....I haven't seen a bad story about them yet.....

As Gav says, Lazer/Box/Stealth/Arioh etc, I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. At the end of the day, its all that's between your noggin and the road in a crash. I went down head first, and I hate to think what would have happened in a cheap, Plastic shelled lid. Let alone if I was going faster than I was. Spend as much as you can afford up to a max of around £300 IMO Any more and you start paying for the sticker on the front.

Went out today for the first time in two months with Daddyjob, Fallout and Tomor. Any thoughts about hanging up my boots and selling the bike are now well and truly dismissed. Bikes are brilliant!

Even rubbish bikes are brilliant! It was nice to get out. I don't think I've been for a ride for the sake of a ride in a while.

Ride for the sake of a ride?

It was very purposeful. I had to judge the "nice bum" competition, Tomor had to speed check a pheasant, you had to prove once and for all that a GSX-R, a Volvo AND a trailer could all fit round the same blind bend in opposite directions at the same time and his Jobbiness had to prove he can still look enigmatic while limping.

How dare you suggest we just ride for fun. Especially as some of the girlier elements of the .ORG are declaring the riding season to be over.

I think we make have some more chores coming up next weekend which we may coincidently have to execute on bikes.

I'm game. I found it a tad nippy today so I just put the heated grips onto setting 1. There are 5 more settings, 5 thermal t-shirts and my crab claw gloves yet to be utilised. Weather ain't nuttin' yet.

It was nice in the afternoon, but riding home at 7pm it had substantially nippified. 12c tomorrow apparently.
