Depends on the prog and the type of copy you're doing, but if you're doing that, then it's not that.
Guess you'll have to shell out for a new one. Still, at least they're pretty cheap now.

when i had my pc built in 2004 my dvd writer was £100 and the cost of the tower including all parts and labour was £720!! i could prob buy the same now for a few hundred quid.

new pioneer dvd writer fitted, problem sorted. :D

Seems the prob is sorted, but what were you burning to the DVD originally?
Which type of file I mean. MPG, WMV???

Some DVD's need authoring software to make them compatible with players.
Just burning a file to a DVD will not always allow it to run on a DVD player.

I've had some experience of this as I downloaded some family movies to PC, but had to 'author' it to creat a compatible DVD to run normally...

iso files mainly, all that is now recorded works.
