Re: Which replacement shock for Pointy?

Just a question, these ZX10R shocks, they add about 10mm height to the bikes rear end if I've been informed correctly? Anyone got a before and after picture at all?

Thanks :)

You'd be hard pushed to see the difference in a photo tbh.
I'm only 5'8 and was a tad worried about the rear end rise but I needn't of worried. It's not drastic and the performance of the new shock over the old one makes it well worth it.
A 2nd hand lowered seat can be picked up for around £40 if needed.

Cheers Dkid. To be honest with you, I do want a bit of a rise but I'm reluctant to go down the shock & dog bone route as I've read some **** stuff about this causing tank slappers to be more common. Which I fear deeply

dkid 26-07-12 04:39 PM

Would have to be more of a rise than the 06/07 zx10r shock gives to cause you any worries I suspect.

I have the above shock (8mm longer than stock) and have dropped the front end 5mm through the top yoke. No tank slappers and the bike seems fine at +100 mph (on private roads officer).
Turns in quicker than before and a bit easier to flick around.

This shock still too soft for the OP though (17 stone). As mentioned, I'm 12 stone and it works well for me.

cool. I'd love to go down the gsxr rear tail route but can't be arsed with all the machining that needs to go into it. Don't have access to stuff to do it anymore, boooo :(

so a zzr1400 would be a straight swap?

Yes zzr1400 (look on ebay for zx14) shock is identical in shape to the zx10r 06-07 shock but with a spring and valving ideal for a 15-16 stone rider. It is VERY easy to fit. Here are some:

Just a tad over £400 but will work miles better than a GSXR shock and the nitron will be worth at least £250 secondhand when you come to sell the bike, unlike the GSXR shock.

Worth considering, the SV has a very good chassis and is worth it if your budget will stretch to it.

you could go for a ZZR/GSXR shock but since you say you have £400 then i would suggest you take up SV650Racer's offer. your shock will be built for you and your bike add to that the front springs and it will transform your bike. Nitron shocks hold their value so if you want to sell your bike say next year you will get around £250 for it and £50 for the springs (keep your old shock and springs) so you would only be spending £160. if you plan on keeping your bike for a good while then you will be rewarded with a better bike. the SV is an absolute cracking bike once the suspension is sorted out. ooohhh and the Nitron is a straight drop in with no modification or cutting things. out the box and they are usually spot on and don't need adjusted.
