B*gg*r
Well, I've had a good run, a nice 4 years of being left alone and just getting on with it and now that's all about to change. I'm getting a trainee.:(
I really don't want one. I don't have time with my workload and the deadlines I constantly have to stand around all day trying to teach someone the job. It isn't my job to train people, I'm not happy about being expected to train them on the machines, and I certainly don't have the patience:mad: My boss knows I'm not happy. He hovered around for nearly the whole day yesterday before finally plucking up the courage to tell me. Then he ran away and hid in his office. :smt077 He starts interviews tomorrow. I have a weeks grace before I get lumbered. What really bothers me is his record of employing people isn't very good. Of the 8 he's employed over the last 2 years, only one was any good and has stayed. Apparently the lads at work are already running a book on how long the new person will last under my tutelage. One hour seems favourite!:p |
Re: B*gg*r
What is it you do?
|
Re: B*gg*r
Dont you get a say on who the newbie is, given that you're the trainer etc..
|
Re: B*gg*r
Like Shifter said - what do you do?
I can understand you being frusturated at training someone..how long will you need to train them for? Try of think of it a different way; ok it is annoying but your boss must think you are more than capeable if he has asked you do it. You can use the trainee to add to your continued professional development (CPD). Give it a go - if it gets too much then speak to your boss and perhaps the trainee can be split between you and someone else. Saves you having him/her under your feet all day? Maria |

Re: B*gg*r
Don't spose you could teach them to do a flight case for a Korg Triton, then give it to me could you?
Back on topic though, you might be lucky and get someone who learns fast and you really get on with! |
Re: B*gg*r
i can only sympathise lissa. my gaffer always seem to favour me for that role as well.
its a very tense situation when a newbie starts and no one knows whos getting the job, but always a sigh of relief to everyone else when they walk over to my bay. they all sit back and enjoy the fun then. i find theyre not interested in work or learn a job they just want the money and want to do very little for it.:smt021 |

If you think you might be able to help I'll find the dimensions? It's no good having a 2000 quid keyboard ratleing around in the car with all the other gear. |

This is exactly why I'm finding it hard to get an apprenticeship!
You never know Lissa, you might get someone utterly delightful and enthusiastic. Ha! |
Re: B*gg*r
Bad luck... hope you get someone halfway decent.
Sometimes I`m lucky with the student nurses i get to mentor, other times i could send them back. Last girl was fantastic and we`ve become good friends so will keep my fingers crossed for you |
Re: B*gg*r
I love training people... boss asks what you doing... training the newbie... The best thing is this can take months if there stupid. If they moan, just tell them it wasn't me that hired the moron.
But I do still enjoy it, if I was still at IBM I wanted to start teaching the UNIX classes. |
