New problem with bike . . . cutting out

Now that the bikes back on the road and sorted, it seems to have developed a new problem . . .randomly, but not often.

When about to pull away, as I begin to give it some throttle it cuts out, this happens instantly, but starts fine straight after.

The way in which it cuts out (really quickly) makes me think its something electrical, such as a dodgy cut off switch, or side stand switch.

Obviously it could probably be because of a number of other things, but dont think its anything to do with the previous carb problem.

If anything its just annoying as it looks like Im stalling the bike!:) But will prob end up getting worse if I dont figure it out.

Anybody else had a similar problem?

cheers

See his sig :-P

I'd say sidestand switch and start lobbing the wires off the relay and bypassing it entirely. Idiot switches are no use to anyone, you will only forget about the sidestand once...

Apart from the electrical problems is your tickover set a bit low?

The tickover is around the 1000rpm mark, and is pretty smooth, although I was thinking it may need to be a bit higher?

Yes. Possibly your problem there. 1300rpm +/- 100

The way it cuts out is in the same way as the sidestand cut off . . ..as in it happens in an instant, and is not like the engine is choking or something.

Try up the idle see if it works. If not then start chopping wires.

I see! Some of us have them turned off ;)

Turn the idle up, and check the carb balance. I had carbs that were out of balance, and when the engine was warm it did the same thing.

Let me know if you need to borrow a CarbTune, I've got one in the shed.

Make sure it's balanced & idling at the book setting (1300 ish). Then as YC, suspect the sidestand/kill switch.

They're super-simple to use. Got an old one too :)

Just had new oil, filter, and plugs in the last 3 weeks. Plus had to drain the carbs last week to cure the non-starting problem. New air filter too!

Tried to put a link in to another post but not sure how to do it, so just search for "side stand switch cutting out" and you should see post for SV650SK2 Engine Misfiring / Cutting Out - Saga. My post is at the end, hope this is same prob as ur having.
