There are two types of drivers

The lot who drive at 90 - 100 in an Audi because they have a company car and the company pays the fuel bills.

And the people who have slowed down cos they have to pay for their own fuel. Very obvious on the motorway today.

Re: There are two types of drivers

LOL!
I thought the exact same thing yesterday! I took the car to Costco and no the motorway I was quite happy to just make progress at between 60-70 along with quite a few other cars all the while noticing the Audi/BMW's motoring up the "fastlane" I thought the obvious divide between the 2 types of drivers was significant and drew the exact same conclusion as yourself.

what you have to remember is they're obviously more important than you and MUST get to that meeting, that could have been a phone call, and they must be there NOW!!!

lol, totally agree.

Odd though that when Im travelling on works time to site/meeting or even to get to the copy & binding place before it closes. I always take it easier than when driving in my own time, not because of fuel its purely because I'd be soooooooooooooooooo frustrated if I got points on my licence whilst doing something for work.

when you buy one of those cars you have to sign a contract to say you will only drive on the inside lane at 90, not let the person behind you past, race the guy on his bike because your diesel car is obviously so much faster, when you loose that race blag up to your mates at the golf convention that "you nearly had him and he pulled over to say how awesome your car is" even tho you got the beat down put on you, oh and stay in that lane until your exit were you then have to hack across the other two cutting everyone up and causing accidents....... oh and do all that whilst not indicating

It's called the c0ck car law

my boss is one of the bmw fast lane types. does 90 down a 30. Thinks hes next in line for clarksons job on top gear, and comes out with stuff like. "well if their car isnt as good as mine they shouldnt be holding me up" and "if your a bikeist and your in my way ill just run you over" makes my blood boil sometimes.

Don't you know that German Manufacturers put Indicators in the "optional extras" section of the order form?

I noticed the same the other day, sat at 75mph on the motorway and was overtaking loads of people, whereas before I would have been a rolling road block.

Liz has noticed the same on her commute to work to.

and yes the indicators on our Audi do work fine thank you very much :p

So can we now say that high petrol prices save lives by lowering speeds. I shouldn't joke some MP might see it and our Government will defo put it through as a motion...

Poverty... sucking all the fun out of driving since 2010

Problem is people think that the inside lane is the fast lane... :(

I always think 'if you can afford a BMW then you can afford to wait'.

In Liverpool today - in lane 1 on the M53, I set the cruise to 55:cool: In 6th gear, it was doing 1,750rpm (diesel)and 48/gallon:cool: I had a few trucks overtake but most reset their cruise and we had us a convoy:cool:

Is that a new version of the C5 and does it still require the driver to pedal? :smt082

If you're on a bike and holding up a car, you should be run over.

Re: There are two types of drivers

I used to *race up the motorway every day from Northampton to Brum.
It always took me about an *hour or so due to traffic.
One evening on the way home, I was tired and just couldnt be bothered with it all so I stuck the cruise control onto 70 and just pootled along.
The difference in time was about *10 mins or so.
I tried it a few more times and noticed that all the cars screaming past are having to slow down for the next car in front and then booting it away again.
More often than not, the knob jockey that was tail gating me was only 3-4 cars in front of me queing to get into brum further down the road.
Now (in the car) I tend to sit at the speed limit where and when conditions allow and have a more economical and more relaxed drive.
Yes I am getting old and sounding boring but I'm also near doubling my economy over a year and am now less wound up when I get to where I'm going.
I dont drive for fun anyway as I do too many miles in a car to enjoy it.
My car is just a tool for work, the bikes are for fun :)

*all within the legal limit for licence saving reasons....

I love doing that in 30's, I sit at just over the limit 32 or 33 and let the B's push you along the road through towns and villages and wait for the unlimited sign (sorry national speed limit sign) and gun it away waving to them. childish but hellishly good fun :)

if people drive up your ass on the motorway I like to vary my speed just 5 10 miles an hour does it, then gently push on the brake peddal just enough to light the brake lights and excellerate away from the idiot who's now braking, probably dangerous but it stops them sitting so close to you.

and not very IAM :(

Re: There are two types of drivers

More often than not on my commute to work I find myself travelling on the inside lane doing 70mph and undertaking all the traffic in the other two lanes. I just find it incredible that every single vehicle in the other two lanes will not pull in because they believe they will be going faster than the vehicle in front if only they could get passed it.

This also got me to wondering if I am running the risk of being prosectuted for undertaking when the inside lane I am in, is clear in front of me for the best part of a half mile or more. I'm not speeding and the lane in front is clear.

I have noticed that you don't actually save much time at all when booting it along during the day, however personally I stay A LOT more alert when I'm driving fast as oppose to just plodding at the speed limit. Driving back from Leamington Spa to Lowestoft on a sunday night at about 10pm, there was no other choice in my mind but to drive flat out almost the entire way home just to keep me concentrating (until I got caught speeding by an unmarked traffic cop, which should have been a ban but it was EXTREMELY lucky circumstances:pale:).

Does seem quieter, I went through Brum on fri afternoon on the M6 and usually get caught in a jam from hilton park down to the M5 but just sailed through at 50 with no hold ups at all, made a nice change tbh.

Thats very lucky, I drive the m6 alot am and pm, the 50mph section is naff every afternoon not so bad at 6:30 on way to work (J6). Due to the traffic joining and leaving the M5, up past the M54 is good. The trick is to stay in the outside lane lol and get gone but i dont own an Audi or BWM so im ok :)

I boot it up the outside lane at 85+ because my commute is 380miles, I've been up since 04:30 and I want to be home before 20:00.

and yes work do pay for my fuel lol

Some of the comments on here from the poorly informed are amusing though.

no you clear as long as you dont make a deliberate manover to get past a car/cars infont of you by entering the inside lane to move back across the carrageway once passed, tbh undertaking when done illegally is really easy to see, compared to someone who's "just got lucky" with the traffic congestion

I see undertaking as passing someone on the left, then pull straight back into the lane they are in.

I often pass idiots sat in the outside or middle lane on the left... the difference is that I'm already in the lane to their left, and it's always clear for a very long way.

The 4 lane part of the M1 from 24 to 28 is bad for this, people just dont have lane discipline in this country

High mileage cars that have spent their life on the motorway can be had for a good price.

Those who have been caught.

Those who haven't been caught yet.

Just not in Manchester 'cos there's gonna be feck all traffic cops.

Come to Manchester and drive like a penis. You'll be perfectly safe!

Re: There are two types of drivers

I figure cruise control at 85 is relatively safe, sat nav says 80 at that speed. Vans are relatively easy to spot but they do use some unusual unmarked cars on the M40 which is always a worry lol.
