Broken Top Yoke.

So i was adjusting my steering head bearings today and all went fine when i was putting it back together i was torquing up the top tolk clamp bolts and before i got to the 23nm specified by haynes this happened:-
Attachment 8964

Does any one know if is safe to ride in this condition or do i need a new top yolk?

My theory is that the bottom clamp is OK and the clip on bar is also gripping the fork which in turn is attached to the top yolk. So i think it will be OK and could i get away with aralditing it or summit.

If not has anyone got a top yolk kicking around FOC if poss as i need the bike to cummute but i am not at work till 3rd May now.

Re: Top Yolk Problem!

Dangerous to ride it like that!!

Fork could flex under heavy braking and possibly damage lower yolk.

Yeah, change that ASAP. Yokes are pretty cheap, try PM Berlin or husky03

F**k it, why do these things happen when you least afford them. How easy is it to change over ignition assembly or does it need drilling or something silly

Thats the ones with the little nipple in the middle isn't it? That would be a pain as i have normal torx bits.

Do you know what size and they are not sheer bolts are they?

You can center pop the nipple in middle and drill it, once you got to 2mm drill or so just give it a whack and nipple will be gone so you can use normal torx.

You can get torx security bit sets from Halfrauds, also beware that Mr Suzuki used some orange thread lock which really grips the bolts, so they'll probably hard to shift.

No not sheer bolts, but still made from japanese cheese.

Top yokes from faired SV's are more common than naked ones.

Just don't overtighten the bolts

I'll have it, if you can drill out the bolt great but dnt worry too much.

How much you want for postage? As long as its first class should get it before Royal Wedding etc.

Will of course add a bit for a beer or 2

Draper security bits are about £6, use with 1/4" socket driver should be ok.

Look at it as good luck, better to break while doing it up than crack when your braking in earnest!
