O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained - yet again.
There seems to be interest in the difference between o-ring & x-ring chains. I came across this image which will hopefully make it easier to understand.
The X ring will have two sealing points as compared to the one on the O ring. http://i43.tinypic.com/m8k20n.jpg |

Ahh, had known of the sealing points difference but not "how" different, I see now, coool :D

Re: O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained
Doesn't the circular 'O' ring technically have infinite sealing points where it is in contact with the metal plates? Now there's a Physics mystery for us all to solve.
Technically, of course, if we ignore the question above, the X ring has four contact points compared to the O ring's two ;) |

Thanks for that.

urm no? :) nice piccy tho |
Re: O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained
X ring doesn't suffer damage from being compressed as much a o-ring - e.g slightly misaligned sprockets/expansion from heat etc

Re: O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained
This again? How many times will it be necessary to go over the differences?
Anyway, it won't matter which type, 'X' or 'O' - they're both sealed chains and do the same thing, from my own certain knowledge there is an immeasurably small difference in the performance of one type of seal to that of the other. The difference is theoretical only, the grade of chain is the important factor, not the style of the seals. |
Re: O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained - yet again.
If you keep it lubed it should never be a problem... so the real point is... have you lubed you chain?

Re: O ring vs. X ring drive chains Explained - yet again.
Just looking a buying a new chain & sprocket set and came across this old but useful post, my question is if the lube is sealed in with O or X rings how does it let the fresh Lube in
