Tyre Pressures
 

I'm running BT-020's front and rear

I'm running standard pressures as dictated on the chain guard, 33 front 36 rear, I know these are for the Metz 4 tyre

What pressures does anybody else use in the BT-020 tyres and will it make that much difference ?

I feel very very comfortable with things like they are which I think is the most important thing I think

35/38 for me - loverly

Standard for BT020's are 31?/36. which is what im running on at the moment.

When i first got them, I had them running at 31/41, Which was erm, intresting (Use to have A D307 rear, thought it was the same pressures :roll: ) It tipped in a fair bit faster, felt like it was about to slip on corners etc...

Somewhere there is a website (Avon, I think) that runs through the theory. Tyre manufacturers are supposed to heading toward a standard pressure, at the moment they are not the same for all makes of tyre. Avon suggest 38/42

To be honest tyre pressure is a personal thing. People on this site ride with all different pressure levels in their tyres. I would suggest you set them as stated on the chain guard and then dabble with the pressures and find a happy medium that suits you.

what about the pressure ratings the tyres have on them?
I normally use them - should I or shouldnt I???

I believe the tyre pressures marked on the casing are a maximum at a set temperature to be used in the USA and are not applicable here.

As big ape says, tyre pressures are very personal. I think with the modern technology in tyres requires less pressure than older tyre types.

Truck Tyres used to be inflated to 110 psi to carry loads of 32tonne, now they are inflated to 85 psi and carry 44 tonne.

I believe Bike tyres are the same, the carcass has to move to heat up the chemicals in the rubber,

My opinion only, but I think 42 is much too hard for these modern tyres

out of interest, i have just called pirelli customer services - manufacturers recommended for diablos on SVS K3 onwards is 33F/36R

has anyone tried a different set up with diablos, and what did you think?
