Aftermarket LED tail light not working.
So I've gone and fitted an under tray to my bike which requires an aftermarket light. I chose this one from hein gericke as it fitted the gap perfectly. now when going to wire the light up it simply won't work, I've tested for volts on the loom and its got power so I'm slightly baffled. I know with LED indicators you need a resistor to stop it flashing too quickly, could it be a similar issue?
Any advice would be great, Ash |
Re: LED tail light
have you tried swapping the wires round Led's only work one way, unlike bulbs

And check whether the unit works correctly when connected directly to a 12V source, a new non-working item is far from unknown. Resistors are not needed - they're for making the flasher unit work right, not the lights themselves. |
Re: Aftermarket LED tail light not working.
well i have tried connecting straight to the battery with no luck, however after calling HG customer services it turns out that the yellow wire is earth and not the black?!?!? Would have been helpful to have this printed on the packaging if not so obvious!! Will try later hopefully it works if not will be taking it back!!
Feel stupid now but assumed that red was live, black earth and yellow for the brakes!! Thanks for your help! Ash |
Re: Aftermarket LED tail light not working.
Yellow would be earth I'd assume, with Red Live, Black switched live?

Re: Aftermarket LED tail light not working.
Isn't yellow/green usually earth anyway?
