Right heres the situation my bikes been fine just fitted ne chain, sprockets, just had a service etc so it should all be running well... well ive got a Scorpian Titanium slip on can and a BMC air filter and also Irridium plugs fitted and it has been running fine howver just of late most noticably after the above mentioned its started backfiring a hell of a lot more and im not a weekend rider i commute 5 days a week so i keep the baffle in to save my ears and to avoid constant headaches lol??

The mixtures fine checked the plugs there perfect anyone got any pointers???

also, check the carb hoses, I recently had one with a small split on the end of one. I quite like the extra noise on slowing down, but it got a tad annoying. Don't know owt about carbs..don't know which one it was, just know it were the one you stick your balancers on.

Sounds like either the one that goes to the vacuum fuel tap Dizzy which is from the rear carb or the little cap that goes over the front vacuum takeoff.

I'll take a look at the carb hoses etc. Does backfiring damage anything like the engine or is it just an annoying noise?

Not the hoses checked them all out. I'll take a look at my airfilter see if that needs a clean or whatever might work lol.

Backfiring is normally an ignition fault caused by an erratic spark (not firing at correct time) thus igniting the fuel in cylinder as the valves open.


not got sv yet so can't comment on specific part but try looking at coil, ignition module or pickup

Backfires are either air leaks on the inlet side or the exhaust ( air leaks on the inlet side usually cause spit back in the carbs).
A loose joint in the exhaust is worth checking for.
Check carb balance, and all mounting rubbers are correctly fitted.
With the motor running spray WD40 round the inlet stubs , if the revs rise thats where the leak is.
The PAIR valve deliberately causes backfires by allowing air into the exhausts when the engine is on overrun, ie throttle closed and engine braking from highish revs, it shouldnt do it a lot though.

my sv seems to pop more in warmer weather, it's got a fair bit warmer recently so might be it

Disagree. More often than not it has to do with fueling, air mixture or carb balancing. That's not to say it isn't electrical, just that backfiring is not normally associated with an ignition fault rather fueling mixture.
