Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
To get it off? Seems to be on REALLY tight.
So, sitting on the bike, turn to left or right? |
Re: Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
righty tighty as they say

Re: Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
It's a clockwise thread as all the rest of the bolts on the bike. Turn it anti-clockwise as looking from underneath to undo.

If you do get it off, check the thread on it and maybe even get the copper washer replace, incase someone has over done it.

Re: Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
Lefty loosey, righty tighty :D (with just a couple of exceptions on the SV, and one of those is inside the engine and safely hidden) But it's really, really easy to get this the wrong way round when working at odd angles, I like to use a ratchet on this sort of location so I can set the direction first then there's no risk of messing up.

Re: Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
Yeah, once I got the 6tooth socket rather than 12 it was a easy task.
Need to get a filter wrench though, I can't get it off. Put a screwdriver through it, but it won't budge. |

I've only been riding it a few weeks, I'll be doing most of my own servicing. Once I've got all my daft questions out the way, I'm quite good. Know my way around a car engine so time to move to bikes too :) Have sourced a feck off screwdriver, so I'll get that through and see. Halfrauds is open till 8 anyway. Won't be able to make the Scotch Piper tonight though :( |
Re: Oil sump bolt, turn left or right
I never have to use anything to get my filter off other than a bit of elbow grease.
