What are your opinions on these? (safety gear)
 
Not sure if this is the right section (sorry in advance if I've plonked it in the wrong bit) but I'm going to be pretty damn safety concious when I step up to the 650 and was considering one of these as apose to a back protector http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/p...oducts_id/5674 . What are people's opinions on them, anyone ever had one? Are they comfortable? Offer the same protection as other back protectors? and will they fit under leathers ok?

Any form of protection is better than nothing, I wouldn't ride in anything else but proper leathers or textiles on top though.

Yeah, same. The idea is to wear it under my leathers (yet to buy them too lol). Well anyway I went ahead and bought the vest (found a seller on ebay doing them for £100, and then used my 15% discount - so got it for £85 posted!) I'll post a review after I've given it some usage.

I have to say that the Hein Gericke clothing range is good value and more importantly well made.

Hmm I might give her a pm.
Although think I'm going for the alpinestars octane 2 piece if it fits over my back protector vest thing.
Also gotta get some boots sorted (suggestions?!) and need to work out what I'm going to use for running to and from work in the winter. Are those rain suit things for over your leathers anygood? Or I have an old textile jacket that's good for about an hour in the rain before it leaks (plenty long enough for the work run), and just get some rain suits pants and boot covers.

s'all new to me this buying decent kit thing, for the last couple of years on 125s I've made do with a lewis textile jacket (reduced from £129 to £50) which is pretty good in the rain and pretty good protection (crashed in it before) and some crap buffalo trousers that are an awful fit and as waterproof as a sieve. With second hand gloves and work boots. Thinking I may aswell splash out for the biggun - although I'm still a tight sod.

Forcefield pro 2 came most recommended in RiDE magazine. I've got the knox contour and it's very comfortable. Both of these are cheaper than the one in the first link. There's another thread somewhere on here with stuff about back protectors;

Well I've already ordered the vest in the first link (£85 posted) but if it's unsuitable that'll be really helpful - cheers.

My advice is buy stuff that you'll wear. No good having it if its in the garage.

I'd always be too lazy to put a vest thing on under my jacket. Especially for commuting. It takes long enough to get ready to go out as it is, without making it more impractical, will make it even hotter as well!

Same goes for a waterproof layer over leathers, much more practical to have a set of each (I know it gets 'spensive!).

The forcefield armour is meant to be the best, but when I was looking I wasn't going to spend £70 for 2 of the inserts (me and the misses) so I got knox ones for £10 each, which are still CE approved. Better to have something than nothing, I'm sure the knox ones are 90% as affective as the forcefield ones, and 100% more affective than nothing which was the next option.

Depends how regimented you are for safety and the time and money it takes to do everything 100%.

As for boots, I'd recommend the Sidi Evo Rainsports as a decent pair for the wet and dry, although they are the only ones I've ever had and the sole seems to be wearing quite quickly. Comfortable with some protection and haven't leaked yet.

Getting leather jackets that fit nicely isn't that hard, but I recently tried loads of trousers before buying some, all the sizes are different, and some are much more comfortable than others, so make sure you try before you buy. Again, if they're not comfortable you'll end up riding in jeans.

I got some INX ones in J&S that I'm going to have to get taken up for my short legs.

Cheers for that, I'll see how the vest goes, if not I'll get a knox forcefield. Thinking about boots at the moment was looking at swift torsion x's - anyone own any?
