things are finally going better in the area of cash my way with my most recent change of employment and raise, so i can finally stop neglecting my baby.

i have an k6 sv650s and want to begin with new rotors.

what are the best of the best?

What are rotors? brake discs? If so that's not a usual starting point for upgrade :???:

Yes, rotors are brake discs. I don't know loads but I think at the highest end you get carbon discs which are only for race use as the need to heat up before biting. These are also very expensive! Next one down are ceramic discs (still very expensive), then iron discs, then your standard stainless discs.

With the SV, the most people have tended to do with the brake disc, is fit wavey stainless discs which don't really offer much advantage over standard disc except maybe extra cooling (larger surface area) and looks.

OEM ones, you know you're getting something useable which is more than a lot of aftermarket discs.

well I wasn't sure, but I thought so :)
To improve the brakes of an SV you want to put 4 pot calipers on, like from a gixxer. Check out the adapter plates in the for sale section from dirtydog if you don't want to do the whole front end conversion.

Yeah, rotors is what our US friends tend to call discs. Stu's right though, it's not a very good place to look for an upgrade. They're expensive, and though you can save a little weight or get some extra brake, it's not that big an improvement and more a "last bit of performance" than a "first mod". Unless of course yours are worn or bent of course.

Thing is, if you want to mod up an sv, a GSXR swap will probably be on the cards, and if you think you might ever do that then fettling the stock brakes is daft- your discs don't have very good resale value if you have to change them. And tbh, the cost of an aftermarket brake disc set is more than the cost of a GSXR front end, which will make about 10 billion times as much of a difference for you.

Brembo are great but if memory serves they have a lot of iron in their metal, which is good for braking but means they rust fast, not nice on a street bike. I won't ever put EBC Prolites on a street bike again, they're terrible in winter for corrosion- they always look bad, but also they rusted to the pads literally overnight. Braking are nice, OEM quality and a good look, but not really an upgrade IMO.

I want to try Grimeca, they look good. They do a lot of OE as well.

Mine were very good. Rusted slightly over winter but not serious, no worse than the OEM Honda I have on it now. Anodising etc was all first class, and they didn't have any wear issues. I got them used as well...

I bought a set of braking 'Wavy' discs 3 years ago for my Thou & they have been fine - no serious rust or undue wear issues - and they look the 'dogs' too !!

ah thanks guys, never even heard of the gixxer swap. yes i am from the usa, and we call them rotors :)

sorry for the misunderstanding, i tend to forget this forum is based out of the uk, lol.

the only reason i was starting with the rotors (thinking about it, it does sound weird to start there without knowing my original intent) is because they are a bit rusted.
