Dead Curvy

Ok Ok so I sold the twin and have gone back to an in line 4 but I am after some help.

A mate asked me to check out his SV that wasnt running correctly (i was an auto electrician in a previous life). It seems that I may have dropped myself in at the deepend as he has heavily modified the bike and nothing seems standard!

Anyway, the main problem is that the bike fails to start 9 out of 10 times and when it does run, back fires badly with no revs or power .

The carbs have been checked and cleaned, all ignition circuits checked inc coils. I did find some "cut wires" where the owner said the ignition retarder was and that it had been disconnected.

The other issues that I discovered was that there is electrical current running through the frame of the bike. Looking for ashort circuit I discovered a very small amount of current going through the "meter" fuse with the bike switched off and key out of the ignition. Although a fault I fail to see if this could affect the running of the bike. I am inclined to think that the actual ignition switch is the main culprit but have yet to check it out.

Any other suggestions more than welcome!!

Cheers
Remf
(PS I do miss my k7SV...sometimes)

Check the wiring loom on the rear subframe they have a tendancy to wear through there!

The meter fuse runs the clocks to keep the trip meter memory so a small current (how small are we talking?) doesn't really suprise.

When it's running badly, just gob on the downpipes to check they're both running. Run it for a bit, then take a look at the plugs.

Yeah check plugs. Is there any chance the HT leads are on the wrong way around?

No. Rear one won't reach the front plug.
