How to lighten the clutch?
 

Hi all,

I have just got my naked SV, and I like it (obviously!) but the only thing I don't like is that the spring-back on the clutch lever is so strong it makes my hand ache after about 40 mins or so!

I would like to reduce the spring-back force just a little.

How can I do that?

I don't believe you can? The clutch on an SV is really light anyway, IMO. :|

I experienced a similar problem when I first got my SV 5 years ago. I didn't find a solution, i'm afraid. However, after a few weeks of riding the muscles in my hand must have improved as it stopped bothering me!

There are things you can do though. Make sure the lever is angled right for your hand - you can rotate the lever mount round the handlebar until its comfortable. Also if you have small hands you can adjust the clutch so that it bites somewhere manageable, rather than too far out. You do have to be careful doing this that the clutch is still fully disengaged when the lever is pulled all the way in.

Also make sure the cable and all the tiwddly bits behind the sprocket cover are well oiled and lubed.

bluefishman ... I am "manned up", I am a rock climber! (strong hands anyway!) I'd just prefer it if the clutch was a little more dainty and feminine, to match my pink leathers and my "hello kitty" helmet .... :rolleyes:

This is mad... The SV's clutch is so light that it takes the micky. I had a play with my old one (mate has it) and it felt broke it was so easy. Seems my Falco's is super heavy ha ha :p

Go to the Gym is my advice, climbing should mean you'd be ok though id have thought... count it as extra workout :D

Hmmm .. perhaps there is something up with my clutch then! Might need a bit of lube - it is a lot stiffer than either my old 125 or the CB500 that I rode with the instructor.

I might take it to my local suki dealer and ask them to cop a feel and see if it is ok (the clutch that is!).

Gear changes are fine though, I find the bite is very deep and forgiving - not like my 125, which was very on/off.

Where are you? If your reasonably local I don't mind trying to help...

Best quick fix will be to spray some WD 40 in there.
