rear brake resevoir location question
 

On the curvy the rear brake resevoir is located in the tail, i'll be fitting a new back end on the bike soon, and i wanted to move it,

i notice on some bikes they have the resevoir just above the lever, (even the newer sv has it not much higher than the cylinder)

however i tried locating it there, and it didn't work, i was quite confused coz i was unsure whether it was the new braded line, or the vfr750 caliper that was causing the problems, but i fitted it back to the longer tube and held it where is is normally located in the tail, and it worked fine,

does it rely on gravity to an extent, and if it does how come some other bikes can run the resevoir directly ontop of the cylinder

I had one of those fitted to my Curvy to make bleeding the rear easier. The only slight problrm I encountered was the pipe seemed to bleed fluid and regularly needed drying off with a tissue.

Yes, the fluid does rely on gravity to supply the cylinder but only to the extent that it needs to be above the master cylinder and the pipe only goes downhill. Within reason you can put it anywhere as long as it's above.

tried it just above it with an inch and a half piece of pipe, and it didn't work?

looks like it might just have to go in the tail

When you say, 'it didn't work', specifically what do you mean? Were you unable to fill the system, or could you not get it to bleed?
Or... something else :D.
Are you sure that it was entirely level and the fluid could run downhill to the cylinder? An inch above the cylinder is plenty.

it was all level, when you pumped the brake it wouldn't bleed, even took off the rear brake line and it wouldn't pump out then either
