Thanks all.

Yes, this isn't citizenship, just permanent residency -so a sticker stating that in my Canadian passport. I can apply for citizenship after another year (I'm pretty sure), and I probably will, but I don't have to give up my Canadian citizenship to do it.

LOL -whenever my father in law (a truly awesome guy) starts moaning about immigrants, I just shake my head in agreement and say "bloody immigrants..." - then he remembers I am one.
