Front spark plug removal.
 

After having spent an entire half day battling with the front spark plug, I have finally managed to remove it - but I had to remove the radiator in doing so. I have a couple of questions:
My bike (curvy) didnt come with the toolkit, is there a place that just does the spark plug and bar bit? I'm reluctant to get the full kit from fleabay just for that bit and getting a ratchet to it is a nightmare or am I missing something?:smt017 I have tried a search, but want to know if I'm missing a trick here - any help would be appreciated!

Don't remove the radiator, find a bit o wood and wedge it in carefully between cylinder and back of rad, then get someone with small hands to remove plug. :-)

The best tool for getting that plug out is the one in the toolkit.It is just small enough to drop into the hole while leaving a bit sticking out to get a spanner on to turn.Id try and get one from somewhere.

Small hands are a bit difficult to get hold of. The OEM spark plug spanner is the best one for the job

Ok, thanks for the quick replies! It looks like I gotta get my hands on a) the original toolkit and b) a nice girlie with small hands....!

p.s - it looked worse than the one on the left - my bike wasn't serviced for four years since before I got it.......!

Before I got one I'd have to remove my radiator each time (but hey at least I always had the freshest coolant in town :smt028) as my 'medium' extension bar for the ratchet was too long and my 'small' one was too short. Can't remember if I ever did this on an sv (as I'd got a toolkit with the purchase of a different sv) but when I did the plugs on a cbr I got my 1/2" drive ratchet, put the 3/8" converter on then used the 3/8" 'small' extension bar and it made it just the right length. If you can be bothered to pee about with stuff like that you may find you can do it without removing the rad.

iv just done my 1st full service on my sv650 K3, i used the spark plug spanner in the tool kit. but to get the one out by the rad, just un did the 2 screws that hold the rad on, then just lowered the rad. feels good that u can work on ur own bike

Normal plug socket and a short extension and it is easy.

On curvy remove all 3 rad bolts and the horn.
