Cam swap
Hey all. I've done alot of reading about swapping the curvy inlet cam for a pointy one, and using the curvy inlet as exhaust.
As this seems a nice and thrifty mod (we like), I am maybe planning on doing this. But thought I'd ask the seasoned vet's about post swap performance, (if you'll endulge me) Am I right in thinking that I may gain a bit of top end? And does this top end gain, result in any low/mid range loss? (I do love the low down torque). Thanks in Advance Richie K |
Re: Cam swap
I've got JHS cams fitted which are supposedly a bit peakier still and it doesn't feel any weaker than standard at the bottom.

Re: Cam swap
iv got some pointy spares inlet and outlet cams with sprockets and carriers
pm me if interested |
Re: Cam swap
Would changing the cams to "hotter" ones mean I would have to check valve clearances more often?

Re: Cam swap
No, just checking them when you put the new ones in!

Re: Cam swap
I dont do that many miles, and its due its valve clearances checking in 1000 miles anyway. So no bother there then.

Re: Cam swap
My 1999 curvy before changing the cams:
www.johnnyrod.co.uk/dyno2.gif and after www.johnnyrod.co.uk/dyno3.gif All teh bottm and midrange is there, plus extra top end, no changes needed in the carbs. I read up on this a lot before I did it and everyone else said the same things as well. Well worth it, picks up again over 7000rpm and opens a few eyes on the track! |
Re: Cam swap
Johnnyrod, cheers for the dyno graphs.
I am definatley gonna get it done, once I get some pointy inlet cams. Richie K |
