Cam chain rattle?
whats a quick way to stop the rattle
|
Re: cam chain rattle
Good evening.
You can try freeing off the tensioner, by removing it, & giving it a good lube up whilst moving it through its full range a couple of times. Most likely though, you'll need to replace it. Cheers. |
Re: cam chain rattle
ok thanks by the way the engine has only done 17k and it only seems to be the front pot will have to take the whole unit out to do it

Re: cam chain rattle
Good afternoon.
The tensioner is a bit of a fiddle to remove, but you can do it with the engine in situ. Tensioners can fail at any mileage. I've known of several that have packed up at well under 17k. Cheers. |
Re: cam chain rattle
mine was near on dead at 8k... although it was 9 years old by this point! changed for a good second hand one at my local garge was £80.

Re: Cam chain rattle?
gonna share a thread as this kinda follows suit.
I was running my bike last night and ran the engine up to about 2500 RPM and i notice a slight rattle comming from the engine, before and past that point all was find so was this the cam chain simply adjusting itself at this point? Bike runs fine and there appears to be no rattles appart from the vtwin rattle that all bikes get. |
Re: Cam chain rattle?
It is a sleeve inside tensioner that vibrates... 2500rpm must just be the harmonic that it happens to rattle at.
