Suspension oil and re-gassing?

How would I know if my front fork oil needs changing and rear shock re-gassing?

Do they leak,is it bottoming out,can you still alter the settings by adjustment and are they due for a service?

I do mine every 20,000km or once per year to keep them at their best.
Most of the time it is a quick job to pull them apart, clean them out with kero, dry the bits off, replace a couple of seals and put them back together with a fresh charge. Letting them go too long just wrecks the internals.

I'm somewhere with MattCo on this one. Every 12,000 miles / once a year the forks get done. For the ZX6R the shock gets sent to K-tech / Kais every 2 years / 24,000 miles or so and they rebuild it from scratch for ~£100 plus postage which is I think very good value. Sadly rebuilding is not an option with the standard SV shock.

About 10k each end for me, obviously I do my own but YMMV.

It's a case of feel when they start to feel tired, TBH a lot of OEM shocks aren't worth the hassle, you're throwing good money after bad at the back and would be better replacing the whole shock.
