Total Power Loss - Fuelling Issue?
Hi Guys,
Encountered my first problem with the SV today. Help/Advice would be greatly appreciated. I was riding in 5th/6th gear at about 80mph keeping a steady throttle and all of a sudden the bike totally lost power. Imagine what your bike feels like when she's running out of fuel - that's what it was like. The bike didn't cut out, I pulled the clutch in and tried to blip the throttle - the bike would not rev at all. I coasted to a halt after knocking it down into first gear, tapped it into neutral and left the bike to idle for about 15 seconds. After a moment had passed I started to introduce some throttle, she felt OK at this point and so I pulled away and it was absolutely fine. The bike was hot (had been riding for about 25 miles) and had a good gallon or more of fuel in it. After another 10-20 miles the same thing occurred again. About 90mph, half throttle in top gear. Exactly the same issue as above. Again, sub 1 minute of idling and I was on my way once more. Again the bike was hot and had plenty of fuel. I'm thinking it's a blocked breather / perished fuel hose / blocked fuel filter (does the SV650S 1999 have one?) or similar. What do you guys think? Thanks fellas. Alex. |

Not cold enough for carb icing so I think your fuel starvation theory sounds favourite.

Re: Total Power Loss - Fuelling Issue?
Does a 1999 SV650S have a fuel filter? are they vacuum fed or fuel pump?
Thanks, |

Fuel is vacuum fed into a mechanical fuel pump located at the front right of bike bolted to the inside of frame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Total Power Loss - Fuelling Issue?
Just gone and whipped the tank/airbox off. It looked like the tank breather hose was kinked, will give an update if it has not cured the problem.
Thanks, |
