MOT Failed!

Had my MOT today and it failed because of my rear brake pads. The front pad on the rear caliper was fine but the rear pad had almost worn down to the metal which is why it failed. So i bought some new pads and went to fit them only to find that the front piston has siezed which is why the front pad hadnt worn down much.

Ive taken the caliper off and tried to get it loose but have had no luck. Tomorrow im going to take the caliper to a garage and have them blow it out. However if i can find another caliper cheap i might just go with that. Looks like i wont be getting a free retest as this will probably take longer than 1 day to sort out.

I also got an advisory for an overly tight chain. My chain was adjusted by the mechanic at M&S motorcycles when i had my new tyres fitted and apparently alot of the bikes that come out of thier after having the chain adjusted are too tight. Might be why my gears had gotten clunky and stiff.

If anyone knows of any cheap rear calipers please let me know.

Im in a bit of a rush. Im hoping I can get it sorted before its too late tomorrow which is why I have posted this thread before I go searching through all the other threads for possible answers. Quite frustrated now, but glad I found out about my siezed piston before some bad happened. My own fault for not checking both pads.

Don't you get 10 days to fix stuff and get a free retest??

Mate get a refurbed one from Husky alot easier.

Who did the MOT?
Never trust a tyre fitter with a chain. They did one of mine and it had 50mm of play but it depends which guy does it.

is the piston that is siezed the one where the banjo bolt goes. If so M6 50MM and a hammer that how I stripped two rears

Yeah its the side with the Banjo bolt. ill give that a try tomorrow and see what the seals look like. Hopefully it just needs a clean.

Its 10 days for a partial retest but Ive only got till tomorrow evening for it to be free.

My caliper looks in real good condition, no corrosion or anything, just the pistons were a little dirty.

Can you not re-attach the caliper and pump the stuck piston out?

i always thought it was 10 days to have the failed bits re-tested for free?? i would check that out mate cos 1 day doesn't really give you much chance and i suspect they may have been trying to diddle you into getting them to do it for the free re-test. i may be wrong though.

I've got an mot failure sheet and it says
"If this vehicle is removed from the testing station for repair and returned for retest within 10 working days, then only a partial retest is needed and a partial retest fee may be charged"

And "working days do not include saturdays, sundays or bank holidays"

If you got a compressor, bleed nipple slackened and shove air up the nipple.
