Smokin' on 1 pipe
Okay so I've got an SV1000 SK3. Got it towards the end of June with nearly 19,000 miles on it. Now at the 20,500 miles.
My friend has told me that it has white smoke coming from ONLY the right exhaust, and ONLY when I accelerate reasonably hard. Thought the bike smelled kind of sweet, like it was burning too much fuel, but had a sniff at the exhausts earlier and again it's ONLY the right exhaust. I'm not mechanically minded so anyone who is know what my problem is? |
Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
White smoke coupled with a sweet smell are typical symptoms of coolant getting into the combustion chamber.

Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
Agreed, check the coolant level then try to follow the line of the right exhaust pipe to see if it has the most direct route to the front or rear cylinder.

Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
Know what the fix is?
Does that mean head gasket is gone? |
Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
Hopefully the head gasket is goosed, it could be worse than that but lets cross that bridge IF we come to it.

Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
ohhhhh no. I assume many hundreds for head gasket replacement and if it's not that then the engine is on it's way to imminent death?
Checked coolant level and it is just above "full", and the exhausts join together as one in the middle from what I could see, so it's a 2-1-2 set up> |
Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
Which cylinders pipe looks like the path of least resistance as such... I think thats what they mean

Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
You sure you're friend didnt just take a leak down one of your pipes?
|
Re: Smokin' on 1 pipe
I would have to say rear cylinder in that case.
