Exhaust extraction in the garage?

Has anyone done anything like this? Waiting for the uk weather to hold up for at least an hour got me thinking how some jobs you need to run the engine so piping out the exhaust fumes in some way would allow me never to rely on the weather getting better. They do it in the main garages so what about home use?

I've got an old cylinder vacume cleaner hose , which is a close fit over the exhaust 'spout' , which i've used for this very job for years, just poke the other out of a small gap in the door or window. Ideal for use in the winter or today !
