Which replacement shock for Pointy?
 
Hey guys, im going to upgrade my chain and sprocket in a couple weeks and i figured i may aswell upgrade my rear shock an possible my front ones? just wondering which is best for a 16/17stone guy (i know! feel sorry for the bike huh?!) which wouldnt require too much modification (none if thats possible ;) ) as im not that mechanically sound.

as always if this has been covered please point me to where i can get the info?

A 2006/07 zx10r shock, they fit perfect, just need to remove heat shield from tool box

sweet cheers for that mate! do i just take off my old one then put this one in using existing bolts? and will they be okay with me on them as im a big (ish) guy lol

For the rear Ohlins will do you one for around £650, or a GSXR1000 standard unit can be found on eBay for under £100. The question really should be what rear shock can be recommended for the budget of £XXX?

The same for the front, an Ohlins WSBK Spec set of forks is around £10,000 the last time I looked, a GSXR swap can be around the £800 - £1000 mark, or a litre of 15w oil is about £10.

Oh and are you looking to do this yourself or not as labor cost the last time I took a bike in to a garage is c.£50 p/h?

hi im on a budget of £3-400? and would probably do this myself providing i get all the necessary information and the confidence to do it. also would this fit my bike?

Not sure about that one, I've only ever fitted a GSXR1000 unit to a Pointy but looking at it, I'd guess some modification to the battery box will be needed.

As for doing it yourself, its not actually that bad to do if you have a good set of tools and some equipment to raise the rear like an Abba Stand.

ive got some paddock stands and a truck jack if neeeded? did you take it out through the bottom of the bike?

I reckon this'll be undersprung for a 17 stoner Josh. The spring rate is only 8.3kg/mm. Race tech calculator throws up a rear spring rate of around 9.2kg/mm.

I'd choose something with a stiffer spring such as a 2008 zx10r shock. Has a spring rate of 9.1 kg/mm and will suit much better. Admitidly it'll be a little more of a faff to fit but once in I reckon it'd perform better. See link https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...COvG24gH#gid=1

Up front some K tech .95 springs and fresh oil will do the job nicely and will come in at around £100. Debrix emulators are another £40 or so quid and will again improve the front end. YC is your man for this!

i cant seem to get him to contact me, but would the 2008 zx10 shock require a lot of messing around? as i wouldnt like to create more work for myself
