Oil, then none, now problem

Checked my oil last week and was near the low limit, couldnt top up as had no oil or money so was waiting till this friday when i get paid to replace, anyways riding home today it started a big knocking in the engine, i was only 30 seconds from home so got home and had a little look to see no oil. Now the front cylinder make a knocking sound? I have put oil in it so im guessing ive damadged something inside? What could it be and how much we looking at fixing?

I have a k5 pointy

Hmmmm... it kinda depends on the noise you've got, is the engine making a cyclic knocking, worse on over-run? If yes, there are few, mostly unfortunate, possibilities - low oil and an SV usually means duffed big ends - plain bearings like oil pressure, and respond very poorly to low or no pressure.

Economics dictate a repair is ordinarily not viable, which usually means new motor is one's best option.

You could try putting some oil in and see what happens, you may have got lucky.

Hard to describe the sound, but when you rev it it ets worse and that is with new oil in it now, so you rekon it worth fixing or not?

False economy fail there. :(

I've seen a few cases like this and it's usually completely sh*gged and needs a new engine fitting.

Where are you based?

Expensive lesson. There is no such thing as can't afford oil. What that actually means is "can't afford lunch". Even some 99p a litre crap is better than nothing.

I know it my fault, but i didnt think that a week from near the lower limit would nearly empty it, there was literraly a cup full left when i drained it

Good luck with the hunt.

Maybe a small consolation, if it was using that much oil something expensive was possibly wrong with your engine to start with.
