Which suspension improvements? Pointy.
Hi,
I am looking at returning to sv650 after not owning one for the last 8 years. I have been riding zx6r, vstrom and street triple r but unfortunately I was involved in accident in July that written off the street triple and broke most of the right side of my upper body. Therefore the wife isn't to happy with me road riding any more as this accident was due to someone pulling out me. So I have decided to buy a used sv650s for which I want to use for both track and limited road use. ( still to do alps in summer with the lads). On my old sv650s K3 I changed the shock for a Suzuki GSXR K3 one and the front spring to max ton and changed the fork oil both made a major improvment. So what I'm looking for now is what are the best improvement for track use for 13 st rider in kit which wouldn't back it a pig on the road. I have looked a fork conversion and zx6 shock but not sure of years as I would want to be a straight fit. Also money is tight so I don't want spend a fortune if the improvements aren't massive. Thank you for your help? |
Re: Back to an sv650
Welcome back (should I be saying that with not riding an sv n all that?)
Info on shock HERE Forks I cant help with, as I just put some thicker oil in as there were already new springs in there (albeit upside down!!) Tom |
Re: Which suspension improvements?
That's great thank you, I take it I can fit any of those shocks so it just a case of finding the best condition one.

Re: Which suspension improvements?
At the front, stiffer springs and oil are the best VFM. I also went for emulators, which are good on the road but to be honest if you ride like your backside is on fire on the track, I'm still not amazingly happy with the front end. If you envisage that sort of thing (and you already know what the SV feels like with the springs/oil) then I'd go for the GSXR front end, maybe do it over winter if you have the option. Obviously mroe money but then if you spend money now on the forks and wanted to change later it'd be even more so worth thinking about - it's not like it's unrideable in stock form.

A set of emulators plus suitably rated springs will make a significant improvement to the standard forks however, and is a much cheaper and simpler job. |
Re: Which suspension improvements? Pointy.
my brain might not be working but IIR the Honda CBR-F 600 F3 fork stanchions and cartridges fit in the SV tubes with very little modification and allow you to keep the yokes etc.etc from the SV.

Re: Which suspension improvements? Pointy.
Yeah they do, but personally for a track bike I would want the comp adjusters.
You can make this happen on the CBR cartridges but it's not easy or conventional! |
