If I'm understanding you correctly the petrol tank filler neck drain pipe that runs through the tank itself to the drain point at the back has rusted through?

Commiserations, as it's not uncommon, especially if the drain pipe gets blocked and water gets trapped in there.

Fixing this is not straight forward, I've seen a few fixes done in the past but none were permanent fixes which I think would require opening the tank which is pretty major surgery.

What colour tank were you after? Do you know exactly where the pipe has rusted through?

Can't help with repair. Maybe worth looking in the classified as in MCN?

It's worth commenting to others that this pipe is prone to rust and therefore fail. I used to spray WD40 down mine to try and rust proof it. I've been doing the same on my VFR.

PS. I also sprayed the underside of my curvy tank as that started turning a nice shade of brown early on.

i would just like to mention that if there is rust already in the breather metal spigots then WD40 will do nothing to cure it. you need phosphoric acid to cure rust on metal. if you treat the metal parts with FA first then it will kill any rust already there after which you can then use a preventative like WD40 or ACF-50.

the milky white stuff they sell in halfords under the name 'kurust' is good, do not get the gel. give it a few applications to make sure.

Good tip Bibio. I think its best to assume that rust is present.
Would you block the tube first before applying the treatment or leave for a bit or just pour it through a few times?
